 Identify the word that is selected by the teacher and attempt to throw the bean bag onto the circle.
 Write each sight word down correctly on their page.
 Use their underarm throw to practice their gross motor skills.

understand the instructions.

LESSON EVALUATION (to be completed AFTER the lesson)

Assessment of Lesson Objective and Suggestions for Improvement:
 Could the students recognise their sight words?
 Were students able to sound out any words they don’t know?
 Could the students write down each work correctly?
 Did the students take turns with each other?
 What will the students need to work on in the next lesson?
 Was the activity helpful and useful?
 What tasks did the students find difficult?

Teacher self-reflection and self-evaluation:

 Were the students interested in the lesson that you presented them with?
 Did each student participate?
 Were all objectives met?
 What aspects of the lesson did the students complete?
 How can this be improved?
Take pictures of each groups learning to add into the anecdotal notes for future planning.

into their small groups for literacy activities.

2. Have the outside area set up with the appropriate laminated

sight words stuck to the ground with the starting line, the
three beanbags and the worksheets ready to be handed out.

3. Each activity will be explained and the correct group will be

sent off to the tables.

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key

9:25am
Questions):
Coloured sight words,
1. Once the selected group for that day is seated explain the three bean bags from
purpose of the activity which is to practice their current sight the sport shed, blue
words they are learning through a fun game of bean bag tack, laminated
throwing. worksheets, white board
markers and erasers.
2. Then explain the rules of this activity –
“We will have a line that lines up after the start line, the student at
the front will go first. I will call out a word that you will have to find on
the ground and you have three goes with the bean bags to try and
get it in the circle. If you don’t then you go at the back of the line, if
you do then you write down that word on your worksheet. Continue
going through the game until we run out of time and the person with
the most words written down on their page wins.”

3. Play the game, helping the students along to make sure the
activity goes smoothly. Encourage the students to find the
word independently and write it down independently, however
if needed give prompting questions to help the students
“What does the word start with?”
“What sound does the word end with?”
“Try sounding out each letter.”
“Without looking at the word, how do you spell it? Have a go.”

4. For the students who are in the higher groups they will have
the harder sight words, and give them prompting questions to
get them thinking further.
“What does this word mean?”
“How would you use it in a sentence?”
“Try writing a small sentence down on your worksheet.”
“What’s another word to describe this word?”

5. Once all of the students have had six goes each, end the
game or once the time is up figure out which student has the
most words written down on their worksheet.

9:40am
Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

1. Remember to take a picture before the students end, then

ask the students what they thought of the activity.
“Did you enjoy the activity?”

3

“Was the activity helpful and useful?”

“What part/words did you find difficult?”

2. Remind the students of the purpose to practice their fluency

on their current sight words as well as practicing their
underarm skill, then send them off to the mat.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

- Students have another phonics/writing rotation they do

before recess, so the student will be seated on the mat until
Mrs Papas gives them their next instructions.

Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be

judged?)

For this Activity the assessment will be done through taking

anecdotal notes throughout the activity to note take any important
information that may occur or any learning issues for a student. Also,
making sure each students are meeting the lesson objectives;

 Identify the word that is selected by the teacher and attempt

to throw the bean bag onto the circle.
 Write each sight word down correctly on their page.
 Use their underarm throw to practice their gross motor skills.

Because I am working with five or six students at a time on the

activity it will be easier to regulate if the students are meeting the
objectives, if a student has a problem with some words I will write
that students name along with the difficult word.

This assessment will be accessible in my assessment folder for this

semester under the Literacy activities.
