I. Objective:
1. Find the percentage, rate or base in a given problem/situation. (M6NS-IID-142)
III. Procedure:
1. Motivation
Let the students play the “Pass-the-Ball” game. As the music plays, let the students pass
the ball clockwise. As it stops, the one who holds the ball will tell the decimal to be shown by the
teacher if it is in percent form and vice versa.
35% 0.04 129% 0.025
%
8% 5.34 0.006 75%
Discussion
1. Tell the pupils that the problem above involves percentage, rate and base.
2. Explain to them the meaning of percentage, rate and base.
Percentage- is the number or amount that represents a part of a whole
Rate- is the number compared to 100. It usually has a percent sign (%) or the
word “percent” with it
Base- is the number that represents the whole or entire amount.
3. Let the pupils identify which is the percentage, rate and base in the problem.
4. Ask them which among the three elements is missing.
5. Discuss to them how to solve for percentage, rate and base using the Techan’s Triangle.
P= B x R R= P B= P
B R
6. Guide them to solve the problem presented above using the formulas.
For rate,
R= P
B
= ₱18.00
₱40.00
= 0.45 change to
percent
R = 45%
3. Application
Note: This time carousel brainstorming will be applied.
STATION 1 STATION 2
STATION 3 STATION 4
Give four events or real life
From the statement above: situations in which our knowledge
a. What is being asked? in percentage, rate and base
b. Solve and show your solution. can be applied.
2. The teacher will comment/process the answers of the students. He will then give the score of
each group.
3. Ask the pupils about their arguments in every station and how they were able to come up with
the final answer.
4. Employ 5-minute Q and A time. Let anybody from the class ask question/s to anyone. The
questions should be related to the topic discussed. Encourage students to ask questions that
would require higher order thinking skills.
4. Generalization
1. Ask: What is percentage? Rate? Base?
2. What are the formulas in getting the percentage? Rate? Base? What figure/illustration that can
help us easily remember these formulas?
3. In what situations do our knowledge in percentage, rate and base can be applied?
IV. Formative Assessment
Analyze and answer each of the following questions. Show your solution.
V. Enrichment Activity
Dyad
Let the pupils choose a partner and have them answer the following the next day.
1. Find 40% of 60.
2. What percent of 20 is 17.
3. 12 is 10% of what number?
