A. PREPARATION WORK:
 Pipe sample: 100A, SCH10S, L=150 MM, 8 pcs (Type: SUS304L).
 Pure argon gas ( 99.9 % purity ) .
 Welding rod: + TIG weld rod: ER-308L, 2.4 mm , 3.2 mm
 Testing area: at UBCF area of An Duong site.
 The equipment used as follows:

B. SCHEDULE & WELDERS LICENSE CHECK

 Schedule: on / / 2019 on the An Duong site


 Welders license are checked and take photos before start work
2. GENERAL PROCEDURES
 Method to be used shall be Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW ) or (TIG) welding.
 Adhering substances, dust and dirt at joints to be welded shall be completely removed.
 Tack welds for pipe fit-up shall be carefully done and pipe alignment thoroughly checked.
Tack welds shall be done with minim, heat applied.
 Pure Argon (AR) gas shall be used (99.9% purity) to avoid incomplete penetration and gap
at joints.
 Welding rod to be used shall be dry and without substance.
 Spatter and dust after welding shall be completely removed by stainless steel wire brush
after cooling down of welded joint.
 AR Gas Back seal is required.

3. SAFETY CONDITION AND ENVIROVMENT


 Basically, all person taking care of work shall be equipped enough PPE such as Helmet,
Glove, Glass, Safety belt etc.

 Concerning to welder test, it’s special work so we have to pay more attention all steps:
 Keep a safe distance from station areas at least 10 meters.
 Barricade, put warning signs at the working place before working.
 Portable grinder/cutting machine must have the cover to avoid accidents when the rock
breaks.
 Fire extinguisher must be located in welding.

4. EXECUTION

A. Groove
 Pipe ends and fittings shall be properly beveled
 Beveled surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned

B. Pre-treatment of base metal

 Adhering substances such as oil, paint, dust, water, etc, shall be completely
removed before welding. A piece of cloth with organic solvent like thinner or
gasoline, a stainless steel wire brush and/or sand paper may be used to remove
any adhering substances.

C. Pre-treatment of welding work

 Pure Argon (AR) gas shall be used during the welding:

D. Tack welds

 Tack welds on pipe fit-up shall be minimum four (4) points with pipes alignment
 carefully checked. Minimum heat shall be applied on executing tack welds.
Internal shielding not necessary on tack welding.

E. Welding works
 AR gas shall be used to ensure complete penetration bead.
 Complete penetration shall be observed to back bead, from starting
 point to internal backslide of pipe thickness.
 TIG welding machine shall be within 25m away from torch.
 SUS pipe with thickness of 3mm or more shall be welded with 2 passes first pass shall
be complete penetration stringer bead pass, and the 2nd layer - a cover or filter pass.
 All slags and scale shall be removed from the first layer by stainless steel wire.
Brush before making the cover or filter pass

F. Cleaning
 Acid washing shall be done to remove welding slags and acid scale on the bead surface.
After acid washing, welded portions shall be neutralized with water cleaning

5. TESTING

A. Welder Test
 All welder must be tested and accepted by KOBELCO-SANKYU JV Engineer
before to do the welding
 Welder will weld a sample, the sample will be checked by KOBELCO-SANKYU JV
Engineer

B. Weld Joint Test

 Weld joint will be test by PT method (Penetration Test)


 Quantity of testing weld joint will be 10% per total.
C. Report
 all of pipe ends, fitting after cutting & beveled must be taken picture and attach to
inspection report
 all of weld joint must be taken picture and attach to inspection report
 The welders after passed welder qualification check, will give number of welder
then can start the welding work on the site
