PT SMG Consultants (SMGC) are leaders in geological and mine planning consulting, providing

of expertise and deliver outstanding results for their clients. SMGC uses Geographic Information
System (GIS) in its advisory and consulting projects and requires someone to fill the role of GIS
Specialist.
GIS / DATABASE SPECIALIST
Main Responsibilities:
As the GIS Specialist, you will be the sole person responsible for managing the GIS. Major tasks in
fulfilling this responsibility will include:

• Managing, maintaining and improving the GIS.

• Continuously populating the GIS with more detailed and up-to-date information.
• Data management and collection from all possible sources to build the GIS.
• Lead the use of GIS and spatial data capabilities in the company’s various consulting projects.
• Preparation of cartographic maps and reports.
• Provide technical advice on spatial data handling, satellite imagery acquisition and other
software/hardware requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
With your database management skills, you will also be required to provide consulting service to
SMGC’s mining clients using acQuire geoscientific management software.
With your cartography and drafting skills, you will also be required, from time-to-time, to assist the
Cartographer in drafting engineering plots for reports.

• A self-starter who can work under minimum supervision and instructions.
• Resourceful with good research skills.
Education and Experience Requirements:

• Relevant tertiary qualification: Geodetic Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geographic

Information System, etc.
• Graduates of top tier universities will be highly regarded.
• Work experience in managing and building a GIS.
• Work experience in handling/processing satellite images, photogrammetry and LIDAR/DEM
data formats.
• Work experience in database management (RDBMS).
• Work experience in the mining industry: exploration and mining operations.
Skills Requirements:
• Advanced skills in ArcGIS, QGIS.
• Familiarity with MapInfo, Global Mapper and other GIS software.
• Database Management: PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Microsoft SQL Server.
 • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Experience in using AutoCAD.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
