Somewhere in the middle

Liza Ortego
A journey lies ahead Old enough for heartfelt pain,
for all teenagers today. too young to find the cure.
A journey to adulthood, Too old for childish ways of past,
our youth to kiss away. too young to be mature.

But as we find ourselves Old enough to fall in love

at a truly awkward stage. and give our hearts away.
We're partial, unripe, sketchy and crude But, still too young to understand
at this tender age. just why we feel this way.

We're old enough to make a choice We're trusted, loyal, proud and true
yet still young in many ways. yet scolded, sneered, and scorned.
Too young to pack our bags and go, Between the role of adult and child,
too old to want to stay. we are somewhere torn.

Young enough for fun and games, Like an uncomplete work of art,
too old for carefree lives. we're awkward, unsure, half-baked.
Young enough for hopes and dreams, But be patient please
yet for reality we strive. for we're on our way
to becoming something great.
