FACTS ABOUT THE MOON
To us, the moon appears to be very large. Actually the moon is much smaller than the sun and the stars. However, because the
moon is closer to the earth than any other star or planet, it seems larger.
The moon is really wuite far from us. Even if we could go to the moon in a rocket travelling five thousand miles an hour, it
would take us about forty-eight hours to get there.
Once we arrived on the moon, we would find that it grows extremely hot in the daytime nad extremely cold at night. This is
because the moon has no air to protect it. The air around our planet protects it from the sun’s rays and also keeps it from losing
too much heat.
In 1969, two men set foot on the moon and saw exactly what things are like there. We now know that on the moon we cannot
find free water in lakes and streams. Because of the lack of air and water on our moon, we can’t expect to see plants or animals as
we know them on earth.

A. TRUE or FALSE?
1. ……………. The moon seems larger than the sun and the stars because it is closer to our earth
2. ……………. It would take us 48 hours to get to the moon by air.
3. ……………. The moon is protected by air.
4. ……………. Of all the heavenly bodies, the moon is closest to us.
5. ……………. The moon grows extremely cold at night.
6. ……………. All stars are smaller than our moon.

1. Why does the moon seem large to us?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
2. Why is it extremely hot in the daytime and extremely cold at night on the moon?
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
3. How useful is the air around the earth?

MY FATHER
My father is a good father. He taught me what I needed to learn in life by setting an example through his own life. His
goodness cannot and need not be expressed by words. He was a man of action. He acted out what I needed to learn.
My father is vigorous man with firm muscle. This is the result of his regular practicing exercises. Every day, he got up very
early to help my mother with housework. He also spent his time helping me with my homework at night, so I was able to
understand all of the things that I had problems at school. At weekends, he usually took me and my brothers outside and we could
enjoy our weekends and feel relax after hard-working weekdays.
My father was a man of a few words. He was a quiet man, only speaking when needed. He does not possess the gift of
persuasion that other people had, neither did he use authority to get his message across. All the lessons I have learned from my
father were not taught through words. He did not give me long lectures or lengthy reprimands. Instead, he set an example for me
to follow. I learned what I needed to know from my father through his own life. It was the way he lived his life that taught me
how to live mine. Indeed, my father was not a man of words; he was more a man of action.
My father had simple interests. He was very fond of the outdoors. He liked to hike, and went hiking as often as he could.
When he had the time, he also went fishing. However, his favorite thing to do was to hunt. As a child, I remember the different
animals he brought home. My favorite animal from his hunting trips was the deer. At a tender age, I was fascinated with the fact
that he brought home an animal of such size.
