CALL FOR FELLOWSHIP


SATTVA Trust, a sister concern of Integrated Design (INDÉ) a Bangalore based planning
and design firm, is looking to hire a ‘Research Associate” on a full-time basis for a period
of Eight Months (likely to be extended to a year and more). The associate will be
working at the intersection of, and exploring the relationship between, “Natural
Resources (Urban Commons), informality, Property Rights and Planning.” The research is
rooted primarily in two rapidly urbanising (yet differing scales) metropolitan areas -
Bangalore and Ranchi. The research is triggered by Integrated Design’s engagement in
past and ongoing projects intersecting planning and water resilience at the regional,
city and neighbourhood scales.

About SATTVA
SATTVA is a charitable trust founded in 2006 in Bangalore. SATTVA is aimed at promoting
sustainable alternatives to address environmental and development challenges. The
trust is focused on enabling institutions and organisations to promote context specific
approaches in planning and design. Activities of SATTVA trust aim to engage in
action research, policy advocacy, capacity enhancement (of government and non-
government stakeholders) in the larger space of development, planning
and environmental design and management.

About INTEGRATED DESIGN


INDÉ (Integrated Design) is a planning and design firm engaged in the field of
environmental design, regional planning and landscape architecture since 1993. The
practice is rooted in expanding the limits of interdisciplinary understanding and

A. Application Eligibility

Interested candidates with a post graduate degree in the field of planning, economics,
environmental law and related social sciences, with a keen interest in academic
research are encouraged to apply. Professional experience of three years or more will
be given preference. In addition, applicants having a working knowledge of spoken
Kannada & Hindi and having good writing skills are preferred. The applicant shall be
paid a stipend during their engagement, which will commensurate with their
experience.

Only one post is available for the fellowship.

B. The Research Associate

1. Framing the research question and research methodology


2. Framing and conducting both primary and secondary research
3. Field Visits (Bangalore and Ranchi) as per the demands of the research.
4. Communication with identified project partners
5. Writing of reports/ policy briefs, articles/ papers and presentations related to the
research

The Research Associate will be stationed at Bangalore and will be working out of the
office of Integrated Design. The selected candidate is expected to work independently
both within the office and while on field Visits (Bangalore and Ranchi). The research
shall be guided by Dr. Anjali K Mohan, Founder, SATTVA Trust; Partner, Integrated
Design.

C. Application Format:
Interested applicants are requested to send a CV highlighting research works
undertaken and attach samples of studies, papers prepared as an individual or as co-
author.

Applicants should attach a 500-word statement of purpose elaborating their interest in


the fellowship and in the large research question.

The research engagement shall commence latest by July/ August 2019
