SYNOPSIS

This subcommittee report is intended as o supplement to ACI Standard


"Recommended Practice for Selecting Proportions for Concrete (ACI 613-54)"
and describes o procedure for proportioning structural grade concrete contain-
ing lightweight aggregates. This procedure does not require the use of values
for specific gravity or absorption of the aggregates but utilizes o "specific
gravity foetor." Use of this foetor is illustrated and examples ore included for
proportioning both air-entrained and non-air-entrained mixes.

• ADOPTED AS A STANDAIW of the American Concrete Institute at its 55th


annual convention, Feb. 24, 1959, as reported by Committee 613; ratified by
letter ballot June 1, 1959.
There were no amendments or errata to the proposed standard which
appeared in the ACI JouHNAL, V. 30, No. 3, Sept. 1958 (Proceedings V. 55),
p. 305.

The new Htandard will be published in the 1959 ACI Book of Standards
and separately in covers. One copy of the standard in separate cover will

be sent free to each member whose request reaches ACI headquarters by

section of this JouHNAL).

Discussion of this standard should reach ACI headquarters in tripli-
