The term ICT is an extended form of IT that stresses the


role of unified communication and integration of
telecommunication with computers and necessary
enterprise software like library management software.
With the rapid advancement in the niche of libraries ,
an ever-growing need of a digital support has arisen.
The concept of Open source software has played a key
role in the easy digitalization of more and more
libraries across the world. OSS has allowed libraries to
revolutionize to become more efficient and hybrid also
it has provided ease of access to the use of library for
the users as well as for the librarians with its numerous
features and reduction of manual labour. The study
aims at seeking the pros and cons of OSS and will also
study some prevailing OSS’s.

INTRODUCTION
The functioning of libraries has changed way much from earlier.
Libraries operations could take hours to perform manually but with
the advent of culmination of technology with information the task has
become much facile and uncomplicated. Information communication
technology (ICT) has contributed significantly to the system of
education of which library is a pivotal part.
Open Source software came into action in 1998 which altered the entire
scenario of library operations. It was able to support abundant data with
high efficiency.
Information and Communication Technology
ICT refers to technologies that provide access to info. Through
telecommunications.
ICT is a broad subject and concepts are evolving.it covers any product
that will store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit, or receive information
electronically in a digital form (e.g., personal computers, digital
Television, E-mail or robots.) is considered as ICT.

Impact of ICT’s on Libraries


The digital enviroments has led to changes in the creation,
storage, distribution, access and delivery of information.
