Portfolio Artifact Description: Dream Home - Using drawing tools to create a 2-dimensional
layout of a home
What you learned: The Dream home project was pretty intense. It is not every day that you get
an assignment to build your dream home. Initially I figured this would be a piece of cake. I have
thoroughly thought about building my dream home for months now. I have visited model home
after home. Sadly, when it came down to it my mind was left blank. Collectively a few lines with
room titles wasn’t going to do it. So, I embarked my journey with the good old pen and paper. I
started with a list of things I wanted in my home. Secondly, I started a rough draft of the blueprint.
I opened my PowerPoint software, I had to establish if drawing my home would be beneficial or
detrimental. I decided that using the tools and shapes would be easier to outline my dream home.
The difficult part about this project was size. Rearranging each room to make sure everything fit
was stressful. In the end I created a simple outline that would leave room for imagination.

#3 3c: Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to
create a collection of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions. Standard
#4 4b: Students select and use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers
design constraints and calculated risks.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future: This assignment was fun in the end.
Imagination goes a long way and kids would do great with a project like this. This assignment
incorporated shapes measurements and angles. Having students working as a group would
be beneficial to get new ideas flowing. Every students mind is unique and deserves to be
spoken. Projects like these are great to socialize and keep the brain open with other students
designs and concepts.
