Microsoft Office 365 platform used in my classroom. Over 65% of U.S. businesses use the
Office platform, so my students will be using the same tools as many of their parents use each
day. The features allow for a secure network that will maintain the privacy needed for the
classroom. Features such as Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive, allow for easy communication
and document sharing with students and parents alike. The Office Platform applications are
compatible with iOS, Android and Chromebooks. Many devices can access this platform thus
supporting the devices students may bring to the class.
A few of my students do not have access to their own devices, so I have developed a device
check-out system. I have ten iPads on loan from the media center in my classroom. I allow
students to sign them in and out as they need them. If students forget their devices, they are
also welcomed to check out an iPad. This reduces the anxiety for students that do not have
devices, no one knows if they just forgot their device or not.
If there is a greater demand for iPads, the students will work in pairs to conduct their research
or complete projects. When working in collaborative groups, three or four students will work
together on one device to document meetings via video recording or typed meeting notes. The
students can review discussion topics later and the voice of each student will be heard. The
number of students using one device will vary based on the activity assigned. When reading,
students will work individually. When gaming or creating, students will work in pairs. When
completing major projects, students will work in groups of three or four.
