Study on gas find impact

T o evaluate the impact of the
new gas finds in the Krish­
na-Godavari basin, the Asia
Consulting Group (ACG), an
energy and power strategy con-
sulting firm, has launched a
multi-client study that will pro­
vide inputs on the feasibility of
liquefied natural gas and gas
pipeline projects.
“The significant finds in the
Krishna-Godavari basin by Re­
liance Industries, Oil and Nat­
ural Gas Corporation (ONGC)
and Gujarat State Petroleum
Corporation, will have an im­
pact on plans for imported LNG
and gas pipelines.

“While from the national en­
ergy perspective, the news has
been received with greatjubila­
tion, it is a matter of concern for
the project promoters who have
invested heavily in India,” Vishv-
jeet Kanwarpal, chief executive
officer and managing director
of ACG, toldBusiness Standard.
“The new gas finds are also
o f equal concern to the suppli­
ers of LNG and gas in West Asia
and custom ers w ho may shy
away from the purchase com ­
mitments in view of the d o­
mestic gas availability,”he said.
The study, to be completed
in three months, will evaluate
the Krishna-Godavari gas fields’
development, output scenarios
and pipeline development plans

and their schedules. It will also
assess the demand for gas in the
power, fertiliser, industrial and
transport sectors in Andhra
Pradesh,TamilNadu, Karnata­
ka, Kerala and Maharashtra.
“ The study will assess the p o ­
tential net availability and de­
livered price of the Krishna-Go­
davari basin gas in the western
and northern regions,”he said.
A ccordin g to the H ydro­
carbon Vision-2025, the de­
mand for gas will increase sev­
en times to 390 mmscmd (mil­
lion standard cubic metres per
day) in 2025 from 60 mmscmd
in 1999. B ecause of poor ex­
ploration su ccess in the past;
the supply of gas was project­
ed to decline in 25 years.
