DESCRIPTION
- EINC is a package of evidenced based practices that
is recommended by the DOH, PhilHealth and the
WHO as the standard of care in all births by skilled
attendants in all government
- Basic component of Dept of Health’s Maternal,
MNCHN started as an expression of the national
commitment to achieve United Nations Millennium
Development Goals (MDG) 4 and 5 by the year 2015
MDG 4 – reduce child mortality by 2/3 bet 1990 and 2015
under five mortality rate
MDG 5 – improve maternal health
- Target 5A: reduce by the 3 quarters, bet 190 and
2015 the maternal mortality ratio
- Target 5B: achieve, by 2015, universal access to
reproductive health
 3.4 M pregnancies occur every year
 11 mothers die of pregnancy – related causes

The DOH has issued directives to ensure the highest quality
of care for mothers and their newborns, DOH policies
describe methods for providing standard maternal and
newborn care to the general population and demand that
monitoring and evaluation systems be put in place for these
