At War with the boers

What the paper says?

At the end of Queen Victoria’s reign, there was a quarrel between British settlers
in southern Africa and Dutch settlers, known as Boers. Under their President, Paul
Kruger, the Boers ruled and area known as the Transvaal, but Britain wanted to
take it over. In October 1899, the Boers sent Britain an ultimatum (a solemn
warning) threatening war.
