Beneficence

An example of a situation using the principle of beneficence on relevance to the concept of

contraception is when a certain nurse encourages its clients to use contraception to prevent STDs such
as HIV, chlamydia, hepatitis B and many others. Since the principle of beneficence refers to a normative
statement of a moral obligation to act for the others’ benefit, helping them to further their important
and legitimate interests, often by preventing or removing possible harms. Thus, the nurse applied the
principle of beneficence.

Non maleficence

An example of a non-maleficent act is when a couple prevents the harm that might be caused by STDs
by using the contraception method. Since non-maleficence refers to non-harming or inflicting the least
harm possible to reach a beneficial outcome. Thus, the couple applied the principle of non-maleficence.

Stewardship

An example of stewardship is when a certain couple used any forms of contraception to manage their
lives properly and plan the future of the children appropriately. Since stewardship refers to the
management of goods or households and it also preserves and promotes what is intrinsically valuable.
Double effect

An example of double effect in relation to the concept of contraception is when a nurse or any medical
practitioners encourage to use contraceptives to prevent the harm that might be caused by STDs and to
plan their family properly even though it has some bad side effects such as prolonged menstrual
bleeding, headaches and weakness.
