PROTECTION DEVICE RESETTING

PROCEDURE

1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE

1.1 The procedures outlined in this procedure are intended to serve as guidelines for
electrical equipment’s preventive maintenance, disassembly, inspection and trouble
shooting
1.2 The procedure also includes equipment illustrations and their respective part

3.0 RESPONSIBLITIES

3.1 The _______________ shall be responsible for the safe and effective implementation of
this procedure
3.2 The corresponding Maintenance Supervisor shall be responsible for the supervision
and compliance of maintenance personnel to perform this procedure
3.3 The HSE Manager or his authorized representative shall be responsible to determine
compliance on Safety procedures and requirements

5.0 PROCEDURES/WORK INSTRUCTIONS

5.1 Secure clearance from the Shift Supervisor in-charge before proceeding to the relay
location to reset any alarm or fault indication.
5.2 Properly coordinate with the Control Room Operator during the collection of the data
and resetting of relay.
5.3 While protection is activated:

5.3.1 Record all related indications appeared on ECMS or NCS HMI at Engineering
Station.
5.3.2 Record all LED indications displayed on the relay panel and relay display panel.
5.3.3 Browse the navigation key and note important parameters regarding the alarm or
trip indications. Note the most recent parameters such as type of fault or alarm,
phase on which the fault occurred, start trip time, fault current and other pre-trip
data. Please see illustrations below.

5.3.3.1 For NARI Relays:


 From the Main Menu select Values then select Report, select either Alarm
Report or Trip Report.

5.3.3.2 For SEL Relays:


 From Main Menu, by using the front panel navigation key, select Events,
then select Display. The most recent alarm or fault will be displayed first.
5.3.3.3 For ABB Relays:
 From the main menu, by using the front panel navigation key, select
Events. It will display a list of events in chronological order and where
each event has a time stamp. The latest event is at the top of the list.

5.4 It is also possible to extract the information regarding the alarm or fault directly from the
relay communication port by using a laptop installed with any of the following
(whichever is applicable):

5.4.1 ACSELERATOR Quickset SEL-5030 Software for SEL relays using RS-232 serial
cable
5.4.2 PCS-PC software with RJ-45 ethernet cable for NARI Relays.
5.4.3 PCM600 with an RJ-45 ethernet cable for ABB Relays.
