.2 Metal studs and track: to ASTM A446 standard specification for

sheet steel, zinc coated (galvanized) by hot dipped process,
structural (physical) quality. Grade A, 228 MPa for 1.22mm
material or thinner. Grade D, 345 MPa for 1.52mm material or
thicker.

.3 Nailable furring: 0.50mm, galvanized steel, hat shaped section

35mm wide at crown, 12mm wide flanges, 22mm deep.

.4 Resilient furring: 0.50mm galvanized steel, pre-punched for

fasteners, 35mm face width, 16mm high.

.5 Tie wire: 1.6mm, annealed galvanized wire.

.6 Hangers: 3.6mm diameter annealed galvanized wire.

.7 Stabilizer / deflection channel: 1.20mm thick metal bent to shape

as shown on drawings.

.3 FASTENERS

.2 Nails: to CSA B111-1974, annular ring type, galvanized.

3. EXECUTION

.3 WORKMANSHIP

.1 Do work to CSA A82.31-M1980 including appendices, except

where specified otherwise herein.

.2 Co-ordinate installation of service utilities, access panels, plaster

rings and like items. Ensure items are properly sized and
positioned.

.2 METAL STUDDING

.1 Provide partition shoe tracks at floor and ceiling. Secure rigidly

to structure.

.2 Place studs at 600 mm o.c., or as provided by Construction

Assemblies Schedule, not more than 50mm from abutting walls,
and at each side of openings and corners.

.3 Cross brace steel studs as required to provide rigid installation.

.4 Maintain clearance under beams and structural slabs to avoid

transmission of structural loads to studs.

.5 Install steel stud furring for braced walls, free standing walls and
where walls are furred out, for fireproofing and for mechanical and
electrical services.

.3 FURRING AND FRAMING

.1 Frame openings and around built-in equipment, cabinets, access

panels, etc. on four sides. Extend furring into reveals. Check
clearances with respective equipment suppliers.

.2 Furr to form bulkheads between ceilings at different levels and

furr for beams, columns, pipes and around exposed surfaces.

.3 Furr out structural members as required to obtain U.L.C. fire

resistance ratings noted on drawings.

.4 Terminate all gypsum wallboard surfaces with gypsum wallboard

pull-away L bead.

.4 METAL FRAMED SUSPENDED CEILINGS/SOFFITS

.1 Install suspension system after ductwork and major above ceiling

work is complete. Co-ordinate location of hangers with other
work.

.2 Maintain sufficient clearance under duct and piping work to permit

installation of ceiling/soffit materials.

.3 Attach ceiling/soffit hangers to structure only.

.4 Maintain system flatness of 3mm in 3m maximum,

non-cumulative.

.5 CONTROL JOINTS

.1 Erect control joints at maximum 7.5m centres to divide large

ceiling areas and 6.0m for large wall areas into panels, and over
junction of structural members and non-structural members where
plaster is continuous.

.6 EXPANSION JOINTS

.1 Install expansion joints at all building expansion joints.

.7 METAL ACCESSORIES

.1 Erect accessories straight and rigid. Use full-length pieces only.

Mitre and fit corners accurately.

.2 Install corner beads at all external angles. Rigidly secure to

substrate.

.3 Install edge beads where wallboard terminates against surface

having no trim concealing the junction and where shown on the
drawings.

.8 APPLICATION OF WALLBOARD

.1 Apply gypsum board of type and thicknesses indicated on

drawings to locations indicated on drawings and as called for in the
wall construction schedule.

.2 Erect wallboard and tape joints to CSA A82.31-M1980 except

where specified otherwise.

.3 Erect wallboard horizontally. All joints shall occur over framing

members except where indicated on schedule.

.9 FINISHING

.1 Finish face panel joints and internal angle with joint system
consisting of joint compound, joint tape and taping compound
installed according to manufacturer’s directions and feathered out
onto panel faces.

.2 Finish corner beads, control joints and trim as required with two
coats of joint compound and one coat of taping compound
feathered out onto panel faces.

.3 Fill screw head depressions with joint and taping compounds to

bring flush with adjacent surfaces of gypsum board so as to be
invisible after painting is completed.

.4 Install materials in accordance with manufacturer's directions.

.5 Sand lightly to remove burred edges and other imperfections.

Avoid sanding adjacent surfaces of boards.

.6 Use minimum #120 grit sandpaper for first and second sandings.
Use minimum #150 grit sandpaper for final sanding.

.7 Completed installation to be smooth, level or plumb, free from

waves and other defects ready for painting.

.10 CUTTING AND PATCHING

.1 Do all cutting, patching and making good as required to assure a

satisfactory finish.

.2 Remove and make good any work which, in the opinion of the
