lamely p o i n t attachments t o a r i g i d f l a n g e which i n t e r f e r e s w i t h t h e deformations of t h e end c r o s s
sections by preventing downward movement but permitting upward ( l i f t i n g o f f ) movement.
Fhe a n a l y s i s i s based on c e r t a i n assumed modes of deformation of t h e c r o s s s e c t i o n s i n conjunction
J i t h t h e method fo m i n i m u m t o t a l p o t e n t i a l energy and the c a l c u l u s of v a r i a t i o n s i n o r d e r t o o b t a i n
