Introduction
Interaction moves from being directly focused on the physical
machine to incorporating more and more of the user’s world
and the social setting in which the user is embedded. The
scope of human-computer interaction is expanding to include
larger-scale, longer-term phenomena of computer use.

Introduction to
Tangible User Interfaces (cont’d)
 TUI key points
•  Computation that is beyond desktop
•  Interaction bases on users’ daily experiences of the physical world
•  Incorporation of a variety of (small and dedicated) devices
•  Augmentation of the everyday world with computational power

 Strongly connected to social computing

•  Sociological understanding of contexts influences design of
interactive systems
•  Understand individuals, their social entities as well as their
everyday life circumstances (cf. Activity Theory)

Assignment IV
Create an idea for a Tangible User Interaction in a Smart
Meeting Room
•  Think of the social interaction of multiple users during a meeting
•  Think of the multimodal personal interaction with the system (e.g.,
for presentation, note taking…)
•  Think of the specific tangible technical interaction with the system
(i.e., the TUI and the concrete user input)

Apply all steps of the Usage Centred Process Model as a team

to develop a system design

Assignment IV
You can decide for the tool to use
•  Use Pen’n’Paper (digitize afterwards by taking pictures)
•  Use drawio browser application (with provided library)

https://www.draw.io
