«Have got»

Have got es una de las construcciones más comunes en inglés

hablado. Se puede usar como equivalente informal de have para
indicar posesión, necesidad de hacer algo o para expresar seguridad
en una creencia. Es sencillo de memorizar ya que solo se puede usar
en presente simple.

Para indicar posesión

La función más habitual de «have got» es indicar posesión,

relaciones, características y enfermedades. Recuerda, no se
utiliza nunca en forma continua. Funciona exactamente igual que
have o have to (cuando hablamos de deber), solo que, al ser un poco
más informal, es habitual encontrarlo con contracciones:

 I’ve got a guitar at home.

 She‘s got three brothers.
 You’ve got beautiful hair!
 They’ve all got the flu.

Para indicar deber

De la misma forma, se puede usar para expresar necesidad u

obligación:

 I’ve got to go.

 She‘s got to get a haircut.
 You’ve got to hand this in before midday
 They’ve got to look after their sister.

Deducciones y conclusiones

Y, por último, también para expresar certeza o seguridad. Este uso es

mucho menos común, y está bastante limitado, pero se ve en frases
como:

 It’s got to be this one!

 It‘s got to be the same girl.
 You’ve got to be kidding!
