Dear Families,

Homework is a great way to reinforce skills as well as keep you updated on what
we are learning in class. Homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday, and
will be due on or before Friday. Students will receive a short packet for Reading
Comprehension, and a short packet for Math. The packets are broken down into a few
short problems per night so that students can constantly review new and older
concepts. In addition to weekly assigned homework, all students are expected to read
for 20 minutes or more a night. I will be sending home a reading log for students to
record the title and author of the book they are reading, as well as the amount of time
they have read for each night. If you or another adult is unable to sign off on your
child’s reading log each night, they should come to me to discuss a different plan.
If your child completes all of their assigned homework as well as their weekly
reading log by Friday of each week, they will have the opportunity to take a turn on our
“Homeworkopoly” board, where they will have a chance to earn a reward such as sitting
in the teacher’s chair for the day or earning five minutes of extra recess for the class. If
students do not complete their homework each week, they will be given time to do it
during Morning Work time when they arrive on Friday. If their homework is done, they
will get free time during this time!
