Chapter 1 (History of
Barangay )

History of
Barangay Puguin
Etymology

Since it was narrated from one of the earliest inhabitants,

some tribesmen from Buaya, Balbalan, particularly from
sitio Meant went out from their place to discover for a
greener pasture. They had reach up to some place called
Barangay Buluan, where they decided to establish their
livelihood. Since the place was over crowded and could no
longer accommodate them all, some of them decided to
stay back to another place called Lanna, a former sitio of
Barangay Sacpil.

Years had passed, place called Lanna became over

crowded due to rapid growth of population at that time.
Some of the residents desire to develop their area of
territory, so they agreed to shift up to a place, which they
themselves do not know. They tried to survey and in time
found a creek which is flowing from the east going down to
the west knowing that this creek is called Puguin. Since
they are not sure yet on what name they are going to
grant; they agreed upon to give name in favor of the creek
called ‘PUGUIN’. From that time on the populace consider
themselves as ‘IPUGUIN’ and subsequently called the place
“PUGUIN”.
