Learning Objectives Revision sheet due on: 01-
 Amber 07-2019
Define half-life and count rate of a radioactive source.
New revision sheet in Show
 Green my homework.
Calculate count rate after a given number of half-lives. Due on: 08-07-2019
 Blue
Explains what happens to the count rate from a radioactive isotope as it decays.
Starter (e.g. thinkers’ keys):
Retrieval key. Students to revise the last lesson: decay chains. As the starter activity, the students will complete nuclear
equations that will be shown on the board. These equations include examples of beta and alpha emission.
(5 minutes)

Brief explanation including rich questioning.  Differentiation:
Simulations of radioactive decay (GIF animations) will be inserted  Questioning will be differentiated using Bloom´s
in the presentation. taxonomy.
(7-10 minutes)  Hands down policy. Lolly sticks will be used to find
volunteers.
Worked examples (including a graph) will be solved on the digital
board by the students. Students to find out the days required for  Differentiated 6MQ.
the count rate to halve by observing the graph shown on the
board. Engagement (Thinking Tools):

Exam questions sheet (differentiated): students to complete the

exam questions with the colour linked with their target.
(Students should know their EOY target as it´s labelled on the
cover of their exercise books).

Assessment for learning:
Correction (5-8 minutes). Students to correct the activities on
the board. Opportunity to provide feedback and address Rich questioning.

will have an extra support. Keywords will be provided and the
the answer in small steps). 6MQ.
Peer-assessment using mark-scheme (5 minutes). Opportunity to
provide feedback and identify common problems and
misconceptions.
Plenary (10 mins)
Students to design a bullet point diagram to summarise the key ideas of the lesson.

Students to complete the RAG activity in purple pen:

- Explain what you learnt.
- Was there anything you didn’t understand?
- What can you do next time to improve your grade?
