2 Farming, van driving and many more things to do for maintaining a family
Q Do you accomplish those activities by yourself alone?
3 All members in a family needed to be involved. It is not possible for one to do all
things alone.
Q Is there any one married here?

Q Which act of your parents do you like?
3 When they love us.
8 They also command and control us, but, we like the most when they love us.
Q You do not like their domination or control?
8 We get upset if they dominate us.
Q How do you judge your parents? Either good or bad?
8 Good parents look down a son in case of disobedience. They appreciate the
good works and love the son.
10 Good parents should disagree on bad habits of children.
10 In society there are some parents who supports on the offensive activities of
their children but some parents forbid them from doing so.
3 Teachers and parents teach us how to be a good person. They told us what to do
and what not to do.
Does someone else teach us the difference between good and bad?

4 Elder people in the community also teach us, such as, they indicate to not to do
a specific type of work.
Q Are only the seniors told you such or the panchayet (village court) also say?
10 When they see something bad is happening, they forbid and ask not to do so.
Q What type of work do you do at home?
4 In house female do the cleaning, feeding the cattle
3 If someone know sewing, she does that
Q Do you think female get outside of the house more than before?
3 Little more than before, earlier female did not go outside for job. But now they
do job outside.
Q Is a job good for woman?
3 Yes it is good indeed, they are earning, for example, they are working at BRAC
for betterment and raising awareness of others. they are also teaching us good
things.
Q Do both male and female go to BRAC?
8 Both male female go, but female are more. Not all of us go but we get informed
when they have meetings.
3 They tell us information that is needed for a better life.
Q How do you evaluate this out going tendency of women?
3 Off course good, they are earning and also learning, it will help them.
Q How do you evaluate household work? Does a woman get anything from you?
8 They do most of the household works, we do not do. They do not get any
remuneration for that. Women do jobs of women and men do jobs of men.
Q Who take decision on household works?
10 If there are parents in the family usually they take decisions and in absence of
them I decide.
8 At family both husband and wife take the decision, I ask my wife. My wife
suggest on the matter, if it is good for everyone she suggest to do if she seem it
bad she forbid.
10 For Example, We bought a house few days ago. We discussed the matter with
our father, brother, sister and brother in law and then we took the decision to
buy it.
Q Does woman go outside with you?
8 If there is no need, they usually do not go outside.
Q How long or to which distance they can go?
8 At best to the Punot Bazar. They usually go for half an hour or fifty minutes.
They go to buy clothes for the kids or other necessary things. Usually they go
outside if the husband is busy otherwise. Sometimes she show the crying baby
as a cause and express the interest to go to market then I ask her to go there
and give her money to buying cloths.
4 If female need to go for a long distance they take someone with as company.
10 They are brought to a doctor when they are sick.

8 Most of the female from this area go to Punot Bazar( local market), which was
establish in British period.
3 If they are sick, they go to the market for medicine.
Q What else are the kinds of work or activities female took part?
8 They do not attend the village fair nor at the big festival of puja( religious
programme)
3 A few attend but most of the female do not attend this kind of programme.
10 We arrange a big waz-mahfeel ( Muslims religious programme) every year.
Female attend that programme. The clerics discuss about religious literatures
and female come to listen to those.
7 A separate sitting facility is arrangement for the female in such program.

Q Do women participate at the election?
8 During the election female get involved but otherwise they do not took part in
any political activity.
8 During the election they got enthusiastic, for example, suppose my wife is
nominated to compete so she would go to the range of the ward accompanied
by some of her close relative. But in case a man anyone can go with him without
specific asking.
Q Does female feel any barrier from the community?
10 We do not have any kind of panchayet (local informal court) in our community.
But our women do not like to get involved in the politics. They do not attend any
political meeting, they only give their vote in the election.
4 Young male usually get involve at politics and at other social activities in the
community.
5 We inform the BRAC employees if we found any child marriage is taking place. In
Punot union there is no child marriage.
3 There might be such thing in the past.
8 This chairman of this union is an exception; he does not permits any marriage
below 18 years and without proper documents.
Q How marriage is arranged in your community?
6 Marriage is arranged by the parents with discussion amongst the relatives
according to the Islamic religious rule.
Q What is the rule or norms of marriage?
5 First day we celebrate the gaye holud of bridge and groom. The maolana and
Kazi attend the ceremony. The amount of den-mohor for the girl is fixed.
Though the amount is negotiated and agreed earlier.
Q What should be the criterion of an ideal husband?
5 A Husband who follow the rational desire of a wife.
10 The first duty of the husband is to respect his wife and fulfil the rights of the
wife.

6 A person who is honest and suggest his wife for honest work and help her in
such work.
8 A wife have immense power. Whatever you do for them with a little mistakes
they will say ” my children’s father is not good”.most of the time they are not
convinced with each other .”If husband say wright then wife will say left”.
Q What qualities should be in a perfect wife?
8 Wife should pray her Namaz at five times a day, she will take bath of the baby,
feed the baby and take care of the baby.
10 She will not think of other man except her husband , will not make relation with
any other man. Her first responsibility is to take care of her husband.
6 She should be honest, respectable in nature, religious minded and she should
obey her husband.
Q Do you face any kind of conflict at your community?( question was repeated

3 In back days it happen frequently but now a days things don’t happen that
much.
6 Previous time polygamy was a common thing in the community, men used to
get married three to four times. Now this thing has decreased.
5 People have become more aware than before people are going to school now
(all agreed)
6 Quarrels occur if someone take over others land illegally.
8 If there arise any problem regarding property the senior solve along with the
Amin (the person who measure land).
5 The senior people takes decision and give solution to any problem.
8 Sometime the domestic animal get in to others vegetable garden and destroy,
then it becomes an issue to quarrel.
3 If it is not solve at the union parishad then we go to thana.

5 There is a panchayet, if the problem is not solve in the village we go to the union
parishad.
8 The neighbour do not like quarrels.
3 If problem happen between husband wife the neighbour help to solve.
5 Elderly persons opinion on this regard is “a woman should behave as a woman”.
10 It’s bad to assault wife physically. Religion also refers not to beat wife. When
problem occur between husband wife, woman usually do not go to any formal
place to complain.
Q Do you have quarrels in your community?
10 We had back days now we don’t have any, there are some who make quarrels
but they do not fight with everyone.

Q What is your opinion regarding the sensitive news and information on the
facebook?
5 We found various post such as The BNP movement, news of the hefezat e Islam
, Constriction of Padma bridge etc.
Q Do you go to such political procession or meeting?
10 No we only follow the news. During the time of election we attend the meeting
and procession.

request. No one restrict us to meet with hidus.

Q Do you have any violence in the community?
1-10 Everyone responded no there is no violence at our community.
Q Why is violence a bad thing?
11 People can loss their life, we do not have such problem here. But at other village
sometime violence occur on family issue.
5 There is puja mandap (hindu temple) which I don’t found ok.
11 We see these when friends share on facebook.
Q Does boys and girls involve in sports here?
9 Yes boys plays football and cricket. But girls do not participate at sports.
Q Any conflict occurs during matches?
5 It happened sometime and then dissolved.
