About This Manual 1
About This Manual
This Users Manual contains information on how to install and use the Ansur VT Plug-In.
The manual includes all Plug-In features. Familiarity with the features of the Ansur
software and Microsoft Windows will help in the design and use of tests for the Ansur
VT. The chapters in this manual are:
Chapter 1 “Introduction” provides information on Ansur software and the Ansur VT
Plug-In.
Chapter 2 “Getting Started” provides information on how to install and configure the
Ansur VT Plug-In.
Chapter 3 “VT Tests” provides step-by-step descriptions on how to perform the basic
tasks of the VT Plus and VT Mobile.
Chapter 4 “Reference” contains details about other VT Plug-In features.
Ansur Software
Ansur Test Automation software is the foundation for all Fluke Biomedical test systems.
Ansur manages test procedures through manual/visual and automated test sequences.
The software used with Fluke Biomedical analyzers and simulators, makes a seamless
integration for:
• Visual inspections
• Preventive maintenance
• Work procedures
• Performance tests
• Electrical safety tests
Ansur Plug-Ins
An Ansur Plug-In module is a software interface that adds test elements for the tests of a
Fluke Biomedical instrument, to the Ansur Test Executive software. Fluke Biomedical
has Ansur Plug-Ins for many of its test instruments. This scheme supplies a common user
interface for all analyzers and simulators for which there is an Ansur Plug-In.
When you purchase a new Fluke Biomedical analyzer or simulator, you can update your
Ansur software with a download of the applicable Plug-In. Each Plug-In module lets you
make and do the tests that are necessary for the device under test.
Ansur VT Plug-In
The Plug-In supplies remote access to the VT Plus and VT Mobile Gas Analyzers (the
Analyzer). In addition to the general test Plug-Ins, specialized Plug-Ins address all test
requirements for specific instruments.
Note
The VT Plus HF and VT Mobile Gas Analyzers Users Manuals contain
information on the features and how to use Analyzers.
You can make Ansur tests with Plug-In test elements that include the functions of the
Analyzer. You can customize tests to analyze specific requirements. There are unique test
elements for each of the tests done through the Analyzer.

conjunction with several Fluke Biomedical test instruments.
DUT Device Under Test—the equipment subjected to a test with the Analyzer.
DUT Info Information used to identify one particular DUT. DUT info usually consists of a serial
number, manufacturer, device type, and model. Ansur also adds a few extra data
fields such as location and status.
Field User The person who does tests on a DUT with Ansur.
Plug-In Add-on software that extends Ansur so that it can interface with an applicable Fluke

Introduction
This chapter contains information on how to install the VT Plug-In and how to use it with
the Ansur Test Automation software and the Analyzer.
Note
An Analyzer is not necessary to make test templates and experiment with
the functionality available in Ansur and the Plug-In. To do a test, you must
connect the Analyzer to the computer.
System Requirements
The recommended minimum requirements for installation are:
• Microsoft Windows XP
Pentium 300 MHz or faster processor
256 MB of RAM or faster
Or
• Microsoft Vista

1 GB of RAM
Or
• Microsoft Windows 7
1 GHz or faster 32-bit processor
1 GB of RAM (32 bit)
• Fluke Biomedical Ansur V2.9.6 or newer
• 500 MB of available hard drive for software
1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the VT Plug-In installation file, usually

To adjust the percentages of each gas, change the values in the Inspiratory (%) and
Expiratory (%) columns of the calculator.
Blend Gas
You can optionally set a blend gas through the Blend Gas dropdown box. This sets
default settings for room air temperature and respiration. When you set the value to
None, no temperature or humidity is used in the calculation.
You can set and choose a maximum of 10 blended gas configurations with the name
“Custom blend gas #1”, “Custom blend gas #2”, etc.. You can rename these default
names. All saved blended gas configurations will be available in the VT Gas Flow
Analyzer Plug-In when the Ansur Executive is opened.

decrease the breath per breath variability. The stacked volume shows only after the
number of breaths is more than the number set (n) in this pane. After each subsequent
breath, the stacked volume updates the last n breath cycles.

Some example limits are: Breath Rate: 14-10, Tidal Volume: 550 – 450, and I:E Ratio:

If the default limit is set through the Ventilator Settings in the preference window, then
those are shown in the High and Low limits for each parameter with the operand as Y. If
the default limit is set to none, then no value shows in the limits field of the Expected
results window.

more than the high limit or less than the low limit set in this window.

Introduction
This chapter contains more information on some of the VT Plug-In features.
Test Guide
The test guide is the user’s interface with the VT Plus or VT Mobile when you do a test
through a test template. Figure 4-1 shows the Test Guide window.

Start Test
Click on the start button ( ) to start a test. The com port selection screen shown in
Figure 4-5 lets you select the communication port to which the VT Mobile or VT Plus HF
is connected.
gig29.bmp
Figure 4-5. Select Port Window
After you make a port selection, Ansur tries to make a connection to the Analyzer. When
a connection is made, Ansur sends the device parameter values set in custom setup to the
analyzer. If an analyzer parameter is different from the value set in custom setup, the
analyzer changes to the custom setup value. If a connection error occurs, the dialog box
shown in Figure 4-6 shows on the PC.

When a connection between Ansur and the Analyzer is made, the Plug-In collects
parameter and waveform data continuously until the test is stopped. The parameter values
are shown in the grid part of the Test Guide window. See Figure 4-7.

3. Set the correction mode to one of the four values: ATP, STP°C, 8TPS, or STPD21°C.
You can set Temperature and Relative Humidity for Inspiratory and Expiratory
gases.
Note
Temperature and relative humidity settings are disabled if the Plug-In is
connected to a VT Mobile Analyzer.
4. Click the OK button.
Waveform Tab
While the Plug-In does a full breath test and leak test, you can collect and adjust analyzer
measurements and calculate parameters with the trend and snapshot features. You can
also see real-time measurement data as waveforms.

Dynamic Waveforms
To see a dynamic waveform, click on . Right click on the waveform area to have the
waveform fill the PC screen. As shown in Figure 4-10, a list of available waveforms
shown in the upper-right corner of the screen.

To exit the waveform view, click the Close button or push the ESC key on the
keyboard.
Trends
While Ansur collects the parameters and measurements and records them, each parameter
is recorded and can be shown on a graph. To see a trend in a parameter, click the New
button in the row of buttons below the Trends label. This opens the dialog box shown in

Snapshots
The snapshot feature records a maximum of one minute of subsequent waveform data for
each of the three measurements. You can record many snapshots while the Plug-In does a
test. To take a snapshot, click on the Create button in the row of buttons below the
Snapshot label.
If not already shown, a Snapshots group is added to the list in the upper-right corner of
the display. See Figure 4-14.

To see a snapshot:
1. Click on the + to the left of the snapshot description to expand and show the
parameters of a Snapshots entry.
2. Click on one of the snapshots to show it in the display.
How to Edit a Snapshot or Trend
You can edit a recorded waveform or graph when the waveform or graph can be
reviewed. You can see a waveform while the Plug-In does the test or at the test summary
when the test stops. You can increase or decrease the vertical and horizontal axis of each
waveform with the auto scaling arrows to the left of the vertical axis and below the
horizontal axis.
To see more information on a waveform, click and pull along the vertical or horizontal
axis that contains the data of interest. This lets you include the added information in the
test report. When the data is cut, it is gone and can not be put back.
A waveform can also be truncated with the Truncate button in the Snapshots row of
buttons.
