System Requirements
GCsolution (Ver.2.32 or later) or GCMSsolution (Ver.2.53 or later) is required for
loading GCsolution or GCMSsolution method files and data files on this
software.

1. Overview

This hardware is designed to allow a single injection to be split into two capillary
columns for separation and analysis by multiple detectors. This hardware is
optimized for use with capillary columns.

2. Overview of Software

Shimadzu detector splitting software is part of the Advanced Flow Technology

series.
This system provides column splitting for up to three channels.
Column flow, linear velocity, split ratio is based on the dimensions of the
restrictors connected to the detectors.
GCsolution or GCMSsotution by itself, can not calculate the correct values.
This software calculates the correct values and downloads to GCsolution or
GCMSsolution.
2.3 Launching of the software

Double-click on the file to open it Shimadzu AFT.

Program launcher appears, and double-clicks the launcher.

2.4 Construction of the software

This software consists of two program windows.

2.4.1 Setting window

Parameter of flow and

pressure

Flow rate of detectors Parameter for column

2.4.2 Property Window

Property window is opened by pushing configuration button.

Configuration

Select GCsolution or GCMSsolution

Number of the detectors

Use AUX-APC or not

Set the length of the

restrictor.

Set the inner diameter of the

restrictor.
3. Operation
(Assuming GC solution or GCMS solution is previously installed on the PC.)

1) Configuration
Detector splitting analysis can be performed with the following process.
At first select GCsolution or GCMSsolution in the property window.
And select Yes or No for APC.
And set the dimension of the restrictors.

3.1.3 Open the method file

Open the method file of GC/GCMS solution. Click the Open button in menu bar.

Open button
3) Check the method

Check and confirm the method, split ratio, column flow, and column velocity and
so on.

4) Save the method

Finally, click “Save” button on the tool bar to save parameters.

The characters “-2DET”or “-3DET” are automatically added to the original file
name in save dialog. When checkbox “overwrite save” is checked, the file is
overwritten. (“-2DET” or “3DET”is not added) To save a file with other name is
also available.

Save button
5) Analysis
Run the analysis using the method as developed. It is not necessary to use this
detector splitting software for this analysis. Please close this software and start
GC/GCMS solution.

4. Operation
(With the PC without GCsolution、GCMSsolution)

1) Configuration
Detector splitting analysis can be performed in the following process.
At first select GCsolution or MSsolution in the property window.
And select Yes or No for APC.
And set the dimension of the restrictors.

3) Check the method

Check and confirm the method, split ratio, column flow, and column velocity and
so on.
5) Analysis
Set the parameters of the method which was made. Set to GC directly or other software to
control the GC and analysis the sample.

4.Error message

The AUX-APC pressure is set too low.

Set the AUX-APC pressure to higher pressure value.

When the APC pressure is higher than the inlet pressure, this message is displayed.
Set the APC pressure to a lower value or set the inlet pressure to the higher value.

When the APC pressure is too high, this message is displayed.

This state may cause FID flame instability or Mass spectrometer vacuum errors.
Set the APC pressure to a lower value or use thin and long restrictors.
