Lamis, today at changing time you noticed the old books I recycled by putting up on the

wall. You eager to see all the pictures and it was a challenge to lay still so I could get
you changed! When you stood up you pointed to the butterflies and started to count.
“1,2,3… all the way to 10. as I know the Arabic word for butterfly I was able to speak
both English & Arabic (farasha with you which you delighted in and you clapped your
hands.
We together counted the butterflies over & over.
Lamis, you had been away from An-nur for quite awhile before returning, but you
slotted back in as if you had never been away! You certainly had grown up in that time
too.
Lamis you were confident enough to share your knowledge with me, you took an inter-
est in the butterflies and counting.
Lamis there are so many opportunities for counting and recognising numbers all around
you! I will continue to encourage your exploration and understanding further I wonder
if you can recognise 3 items and the number 3? Or even matching the number of items
to the written number. There are lots of games I can play with you.

Lamis, thank you for showing me what you already know about counting and numbers
now together we can build and grow your ideas.
