A Look Over the Summer Semester

Throughout this summer fiver week English class, I have learned so much about the

English written language. I learned most from the English handbook that was used throughout

the semester to help fill out the study guides. These study guides taught many techniques and

tricks that helped improve my writing. Besides the study guides, the essays taught me more than

I thought I already knew. I really liked how the professor gave back our essays with edits on

them, instead of just returning them to us with random marks. Since the professor took the time

and wrote what we did wrong on our essays, we were able to know what exactly needed to be

fixed and was able to fix it. There are many skills that I have gained , and many skills I still need

to improve on.

The skill that was new to me has to be the skill of writing a research paper with quoting

academic journals. I am very inexperienced with this skill, it was a challenge. In my past, I have

never had to research before I wrote an essay or had to cite so much work. With having to

include information from outside sources, I had to do a lot of research. This five week summer

session has helped my gain practice with my research skills. I was also able to get more familiar

with the MLA format that we used throughout the course.

I need to keep working on my research skills, and my writing as a whole. When it comes

to my writing I need to remember to stay focus on the topic, and stop being repetitive. I also need

to work on my word choices. I need to start using more level two words rather then level one.

I feel like that the easiest essay was the textual rhetorical analysis. In my eyes it was the

easiest because I was able to look at it from an non bias eye while also state facts about it. I feel

like it is easier to look and analysis something without inserting my own opinion about the topic

I am reading. To me the essay I had trouble with was the casual argument essay. The reason why

I struggled so much with this essay was because I had trouble staying on topic. It was a challenge

to provide the examples for the cause and effect related to my topic. If I would have chosen

something else, then maybe it would have been a little easier. The essay that I had trouble with

was the essay that taught me the most. The casual argument essay taught me the most because I

learned a lot about my topic I researched as well. I also learned how to think outside the box

when it came to writing a academic essay as well.

The skills that I have gained in English 1302 will help me in future in many ways. The

skills will help me with my other classes, such as philosophy and history. The skills will also

help in the work place. The skills will help in the work place because they will come in handy if

I have a presentation I have to give or if I have to make a one day.

Rhetoric is used all around us in the world today. No one can ever stop improving their

writing skills. The skills that I have gained in this class have helped me write different essays for

different classes, such as history and philosophy. Through learning how to properly plan out my

essays , and practicing my writing I am able to reflect on it and better my writing. English 1302

has been indescribably beneficial in bettering my writing skills.
