4 Reliability Design

4.1 Hardware Redundancy Design

In order to ensure reliability, RNC rack and shelves adopt dual-power-supply, and the
connection cables in RNC rack are at least dual-mode. At the same time, RNC provides
1+1 backup for the key boards such as: ROMB, CLKG, RCB, UIMC, GIMU, CHUB,
PSN, GLI, and RUB adopts load-sharing method, which is named redundancy resource
pool. And each of the interface boards adopt 1+1 backup or load-sharing. The entire
system performance will not be affected if individual board has fault.

4.2 Software Reliability Design

RNC software subsystem adopts high reliability design. Besides the external operation
and maintenance ports, which are protected by internal firewall software, RNC internal
communication in whole system is entirely isolated. So RNC can detect and defend
against the network security attacks. At the same time, the OMM subsystem supports
powerful user authentication functionality; the idea is that system will distribute relevant
operation permission according to user name and password.

RNC software system has powerful self-fault-tolerant capability, mainly reflected in:
 Automatically checking the legitimacy of data configured by user, refusing wrong or
unreasonable data configuration and informing user to modify
 Supporting key version and data backup, and performing rollback when version or
data loading failed
 Supporting “watch dog” functionality, resetting the boards when software going
wrong and recording the failure information by black box function
 Detecting the failure of ports, link and SW/HW, resetting/triggering backup unit to
guarantee system running normally

Security protection grade is IP20 (‘2’indicates that prevents the object which is bigger
than 12mm such as finger to insert into. And ‘0’ indicates that has no special water
protection)

 Steel Ball Test

Such test can be done by using the integrity rack shell of sample or the other biggest
area of not enhanced part: one 500g steel ball will free fall from 1.3m height to hit the up
surface of the equipment, the case has no clearly indent. Or the 500g steel ball with
1.3m line as a horizontal pendulum to hit the beside surface of the equipment, if there is
indent damage or scratch, but it does not affect security, water resistant, and it also can
endure corresponding anti- electric strength, this test is passed.

 Lightning Protection

The system provides lightning protection measures. The working ground and the
protection ground are reliable with the grounding resistance of the protection ground less
than 1 ohm. The protection grounding terminals are anti-corrosive; the insulating layer of

the grounding conductor is yellow-green. There is tooth-shape washer for the connection
between the protection ground and the screw of shell (or PCB) to make the protection
group more reliable and stable.

 Current leakage

 Current leakage of the overall system: <3.5 mA.

 Security Marks

A clearly and long term sticky tags or marks must be labeled to ensure no mistake of
wrong board and cable connection. It has indicator, switch and button and mark with
clear color to indicate the meaning of the system running status.

 Heat Resistance and Flame Proof

The case can resist heat and flame. The outside case and clapboard between shelves
are all made of flame proof, heat resistance and explosion prevention material. All
material and units has the flame proof level better than V-2 or HF-2.

 Input Current

Under the condition of rated input voltage, the input current shouldn’t be more than110%
of rated current.

 Abnormal Situations

RNC has no danger at the situations of overload, output short circuit, power in reverse,
fan locked and other man-made faults caused by mistake operations.

 The Isolation of Communication Network to Ground

The components bridged at the normal position will not be damaged if the 1000Vac
grounding insulation between the telecom network circuits and grounding components is
not punctured.

6 Installation
Figure 5 shows the installation flow of ZXWR RNC hardware.

Figure 5 Hardware Installation Flow

The workload of the hardware installation is large and complex. It can fall into the
following parts:

1 Installing cabinet

ZXWR RNC adopts 19-inch standard cabinet. The cabinet installation includes base
installation mode and feet installation mode. In the case of multi-cabinet, fix a single
cabinet first and then connect the cabinets.

2 Installing boards

ZTE Confidential Proprietary © 2009 ZTE Corporation. All rights reserved. 15

ZXWR RNC Product Description

Usually, the shelf is installed inside the rack before delivery. The users are only required
to install boards and other accessories on the site.

3 Installing cables

After installing the cabinet, cables are required to install, including cabinet power cable,
cabinet grounding cable, intra-cabinet line, out-of-cabinet line, and inter-cabinet line.

4 Installing GPS antenna feeder system

GPS serves as the clock and frequency reference of WCDMA, playing a very important
role. In addition, it provides the system with GPS ephemeris signals for AGPS location.
GPS antenna receives the navigation location signals from the GPS satellite, modulating
into the frequency, clock signals and AGPS messages via the GPS signal receiver. The
clock signals are provided to WCDMA units and AGPS messages are sent to the
processing unit.

5 Installing accessories

After installing the cabinet, accessories related to RNC operation are required to install,
including the alarm box and all kinds of sensors.

6 Checking the installation

Check the installation of ZXWR RNC hardware completely after it ends. The check
includes the cabinet installation techniques, cable connection and layout, auxiliary
device and related items.

7 Powering on/off the equipment

After checking the installation, please power on/off the equipment for check.
