every equipment you will pick and the common farm equipment and
you’ve need to post it on the board. they will post it on the board.)
Is that clear?

(All of the common farm

equipments are already post.)
We already have the common farm

Yes, it is right. It is a large scale (The students are listening

area or a big farm. carefully.)
As you notice, all of you, all of us
can achieve that large scale area or
big farm in the future. But of course
you need to know the different farm
labor including the labor
requirements for land preparation,
labor requirement in planting and
requirement for plant care to
achieve the high quality of your
crops in your farm.

But before we proceed, When we Sir it is the people employed by a

B. Learning Procedure
1. Activity
We have three families right? Yes Sir.
I would like to call again the family
leaders to come here in front and (The students are listening to the

blackboard. Each vegetable has a
different farm labor requirement at
the back. Each group will explain
and give an example of the farm
labor requirement here in front. I will
give you 5 minutes cooperate with
your families.

Okay I guess all of the families were (Family 1 will explain and give an

designed topic.

Okay that was very good! family 2

and family 3 let us give family one
an Firework clap.

And now may I call on the second (Family 2 will explain and give an

Very good family 3! And now family

1 and 2 let us give family 3 an angel
clap!

2. Analysis
Good job families. So farm labor is
people gainfully employed by a farm
operator to assist with the farm
work, including regular, seasonal,
local, migratory, full-time or part-
time employment. Your
explanations are astounding. Now,
let me explain to you the farm labor
requirements for land preparation.

First is plowing using a tractor.

Farmers nowadays were using four
wheel tractors for plowing their field.
Plowing is for pulverizing the soil,
for initial cultivation of soil in
preparing for sowing seed.

Next is clearing the land using hoe.

As you can see, the man in the
picture were using hoe to clear the
land. Hoe can be used to pull out
the stem of the weeds and also it
can be used to make an irrigation
and for hilling up.

Another is plowing using animal.

Plowing using animal is an old or a
traditional way in pulverizing the
soil. Sometimes to pulverize the
soil, the farmers will need to plow
their area for at least two times to
make sure that the soil will be
pulverized.

Okay, next is harrowing using hand

tractor.
Harrowing using tractor is
important, because it will provide a
finer finish, or soil structure that is
suitable for seedbed. As you can
see farmers were usually used
hand tractors instead of animals.

Next is preparation of furrow.

Preparation of furrow I also
important. Make sure that your
furrow is clear and has no weeds
before planting and make sure also
that you have apply the right
measurement every furrow.

Another requirement is trellis

preparation for cucurbit crops.
Trellis preparation is used for
cucurbit crops. Example of cucurbit
crop is cucumber. So can you give
me another example? Yes ______. (The students will raise their hand)
Very good! Watermelon Sir.

As you can see in the picture there

is a post and a wire, it’s because
those plants like watermelon and
cucumber were creeping on the
wire.

Another one is mulching.

Okay, what have you noticed in this
picture? Yes _____. (The students will raise their hand)
Yes, Can you give me an idea why There is a plastic around the plants
the farmers put a plastic around Sir.
their plants. Yes _____.
Excellent! It is because the sunlight (The students will raise their hand)
will hit the surface of the soil and for Because the sunlight will hit the soil
that, it will increase the volume or then it will increase the numbers of
numbers of weeds that will get the weeds.
nutrients or vitamins of your plants.

Now, the next one is digging holes

for orchard. Class, did you noticed
the big holes?
Because when we say orchard, It is Yes Sir.
a land where you can see a fruit
trees. So can you give me an
example of fruit trees? Yes _____.
Very good! Another example is (The students will raise their hand.)
Apple. Mango Sir!

Any questions about labor

requirement for land preparation?
None Sir.
Okay, let’s move on. Now, these
are the labor requirement for
planting.
First is the production of seedlings.

First labor requirement is

transplanting of seedlings. Example
crop for this is tomato. Nursery farm
were doing this for them to know
the best time of harvesting. After 2
weeks or 15 days they will transfer
the plant to another big area of soil
which is called transplanting,
Be careful to pull off the plant
because you may cut the stem. The
best time for time for transplanting
the tomato is late in the afternoon
and the soil must have moisture.

Okay, any questions for labor

requirement for plant care?
Okay let’s move on. None Sir.

Last in farm labor is the labor

requirement for plant care. The first
one is the fertilizer application.
Okay in fertilizer application you
must know the vitamins in the
fertilizer because your plants need
the NPK, do you know what is the
meaning of NPK? Yes _____.
Very Good! (The students will raise their hand.)
Nitrogen, Phosporus and Potassium
You can also apply organic fertilizer Sir.
like chicken manure or stool of any
animals.

Next labor requirement for plant

care is the pest control.
For plant care, having a pest control
is very important. You may lost the
quality of your crop and of course
the money and hard work. There
are four control avoiding the pest.
First is biological control, second is
cultural control, third is mechanical
control and lastly the chemical
control.

Next is the irrigation.

Irrigation is also important in plant
care. Because every plants or crop
really needs a water especially in
summer or hot season. In Lumban,
most of the farmers are using drilled
well and water pump. The water
came from the river between
Barangay Concepcion and
Barangay Wawa.

Of course the next is weeding.

Weeding is usually doing before
planting or in land preparation. But
the farmers were suppressing the
weed 2 weeks after planting like in
corn plants. Some of the farmers
were using equipment like hoe but
most of them are using herbicide.

And lastly, the harvesting.

Harvesting is final stage in farm

labor. In corn, most of the farmers
in Lumban were harvested the corn
by physical means. They are using
their hands to pull or cut the corn.
They will separate the big, medium
and small corn and it is called
grading.

Okay we already have the Farm

labor including requirement for land
preparation, requirement in planting
and requirement for plant care. Do
you have any questions or
clarifications? None Sir.

3. Abstraction
Okay so I guess all of you already
knew the farm labor requirements.
Now I will ask you some questions if
you really already knew the farm
labor requirements.

1. Trellis preparation is for what

crop? Give an example. Yes _____ (The students will raise their hand.)
Very good! Trellis preparation is for cucurbit
crop Sir. Examples are cucumber
and watermelon.
2. Give me one idea why do
farmers need to cover the soil in (The students will raise their hand.)
mulching? Yes _____ To protect the soil from sunlight.
Excellent! Because it will cause the weeds to
grow fast.

3. When is the best time to

transplant your plant to another (The students will raise their hand.)
soil? Yes _____ Late in the afternoon Sir.
Very good!

4. What is NPK? Yes _____ (The Students will raise their hand.)
Good! Nitrogen, Phosporus and
Potassium.
5. What are the four controls
avoiding the pest? (The students will raise their hand.)
That was excellent! Sir these are the biological,
chemical, cultural and mechanical
3. Application control.
All right class, let us review the farm
labor requirements. I will call 15 of (Let the students identify them)
you and identify the farm labor.

IV. Evaluation
Please get ¼ sheet of paper and we
will have a quiz. (The students will get ¼ sheet of
Are you ready? paper)
Yes Sir.
Okay, Identify these rambled
pictures of labor requirement for
land preparation to labor (The students will take their quiz)
requirement for plant care. You may
start now.

Okay, Are you finished?

Okay pass your papers to your Yes, Sir.
family leaders.

V. Assignment
Interview a famer and ask the
following:
1. What do you do when the plants
are not growing?
2. What fertilizer are you applying to
your crops?
3. How much is the cost of your
fertilizer?
4. Do you use hand tractor? Why?
5. Are you still using animals for
plowing and harrowing?
