Brief note on Meeting Held on 2nd July 2019

Subject: Design of Intake Structure for Water Supply Scheme to Peshawar from
MOHMAND DAM RESERVOIR

Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Detailed

Engineering Design Phase of MDHP requested WAPDA to incorporate the intake of water supply
scheme for Peshawar from Mohmand Dam. The design could not be done because it was not in
MDC scope of services. Now in current Consultancy Services agreement for construction stage
it has included in ToR.
In this regard a meeting was arranged by GM MDHP at Public Health Deptt. C&W Secretariat,
Peshawar on July 02, 2019 between the following Departments;
1. Water and Power Development Authority, WAPDA
2. Public Health Engg. Department, PHED, KPK
3. Water Supply and Sanitation Programme, WSSP, Peshawar
4. Mohmand Dam Consultants Group MDCG.

During meeting the following was discussed:

 Water Supply Scheme from Mohmand Reservoir to Peshawar has already been designed
by NESPAK in 2014 for PHED KPK. However Intake structure and water supply tunnel
from Mohmand Dam Reservoir has not been designed
 GM MDHP explained that cost of Intake and tunnel for water supply scheme has not been
included in the current contract for the construction of Mohmand Dam and raised the issue
of owner ship of Intake and water supply tunnel. He suggested that it is the time that the
required facility may be executed by the same contractor under some VO. However it
needs to be settled out that which department will own its owner ship and bear its
construction cost.
 Secretary PHED agreed to look into the matter and resolve it on urgent basis.
 WSSP expressed their limitations to execute such mega project.
 GM Wapda also suggested that MDCG should consider installation of a small power
house on Water Supply Tunnel near Water Treatment Plant.
 Soft copy of “Final Detailed Design Report/Drawings for Greater Water Supply Scheme,
Peshawar) was collected from PHED by DD (Tech.) Wapda and will be forwarded to
MDCG.

NOTE:-
In our opinion, provision of Intake for water supply scheme can be made at the moment in the
present structure for irrigation tunnel or an independent Intake structure.
