1. PURPOSE

1.1 This standard describes the procedure by which Suppliers shall submit information
and details of shop coating work for review and approval by Foster Wheeler
Energy Limited (FWEL) and the Owner.

2. SCOPE

2.1 The Supplier shall submit with the initial quotation a general description of the
painting operations which have been included for in the quotation. As a minimum
requirement, the following information shall be provided in the description;
• Limits/extent of coating.
• Type and brand name of coating(s) to be used.
• Compliance with FWEL Engineering Stdandar 83A1 (READING).
• List of any deviations from FWEL Eng Std. 83A1 (READING).
NOTE: If no deviations from the FWEL enquiry documents are stated in the
quotation it will be deemed that all the requirements of these
documents have been included for in the quotation.

2.2 The quotation shall confirm the receipt of FWEL Eng Std. 83A1 (Reading).

2.3 FWEL comments arising from the Suppliers quotation shall be discussed at a pre-
order meeting.

2.4 Following order placement, the vendor shall provide a procedure giving details of
the painting work to be carried out (see 3.0).

2.5 FWEL/OWNER. shall review and comment on the work procedure using the
following Codes:-

Code 1 - Rejected. Resubmit. Do not proceed with painting work.

Code 2 - Incorporate comments. Resubmit. Proceed with painting


work.

Code 3 - Proceed with painting work.

3. REFERENCE AND GUIDELINES

3.1 The procedure shall include the following information:


a) Programme of work schedules in sufficient detail to allow inspection planning.
b) Shop testing programme.
c) Surface preparation.
d) Table/schedule for each FWEL item number. The table/schedule shall identify
the surface level of cleanliness, identity of primer(s), undercoat(s) and finish
coat(s), nominal dry film thickness of coats and total shop applied system
against specific areas of the items, ie. Shell, top/bottom head skirt, saddles,
nozzles, girth flanges etc.
e) Selected coating manufacturer.
f) Material schedule showing FWEL paint reference number against the paint
manufacturer's paint reference name and/or number.
g) Written information to advise whether paint work is to be carried out under
cover, part cover or completely outdoors.
h) Selected paint applicator.
i) Paint material delivery dates.
j) Quality control methods and Inspection to be carried out by the Supplier.
k) Copy of typical Inspection/Record Sheets.
l) Copy of paint material data sheets.
m) Details of abrasive medium; including a data sheet.
