Update from Your Chief Steward July 2019 - Issue #16

CID Chief Shop Steward Marinos Marinos

TABLE OF CONTENTS
The month of June has showed the CID Union Shop that professional
and consistent labor can result in undeniable success. I was more than Update from the Council Page 1
pleased to see that MPDC announced they are planning to hold a
Detective Grade I test in November of 2019. This is a huge Union Membership Status Page 2
accomplishment as it seems that lobbying management and consistently
advocating for the rank of Detective Grade 1 has finally paid off in the BWCs and Critical Incidents Page 3

form of a new promotional process this fall.

I hope that MPD continues to see that D-1s can be used in so many
roles from a field training detective, lead investigator in complex criminal
investigations, and a supervisor when needed.

I am still receiving complaints from District Detectives who are receiving

reports where patrol failed to make an arrest on scene, which leads to
district detectives having to pick up the slack and conduct an additional
investigation. If you are having this issue please email me the CCNs and
a brief synopsis of the case to my Union email address from a non-
DC.gov email. I plan on presenting these cases to Commander Parsons
in an attempt to communicate this issue with all the district
commanders.

During the June General Membership meeting, the Chairman announced Please sign up to receive this regular
that he was forming both a contract negotiation team for the upcoming CID Union Newsletter by emailing
negotiations with the city. If you are interested in joining the contract mmarinos@dcpoliceunion.com with the
negotiation team please email the chairman at subject “newsletter”.
