DAILY LESSON PLAN

MATHEMATICS 4

Teacher: Mr. Joeren C. Jarin

Teaching Date and Time: July 8-9, 2019, 10:00 am to 10:50 am
Quarter: First, Week 6 Day 1-2

I. Objectives
Divide 3- to 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers without and with remainder

II. Learning Content

a. References: K to 12 Grade 4 Curriculum, LM Grade 4 pages 49 to 52
b. Materials: Flash Cards, sample birthday invitation card

III. Learning Experiences

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill
Have a drill on division basic facts using flashcards. Let the pupils
divide as fast as they can.

2. Review
Conduct review on the terms used in division sentence. For
instance, the number that is divided is called the dividend. The
number that divides the dividend is the divisor. The answer in
division is quotient.

3. Motivation
Show the sample birthday invitation card to the pupils. Ask them
about their attendance to some occasions.
Ask: Did you ever receive an invitation from your friends? What
kind of invitation did you receive? There should be a story from
someone who prepared invitation cards to his friends on his
birthday celebration.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Ryan celebrated his 9th birthday. He invited his 144 schoolmates. If
he was able to print 9 invitation cards per hour, how many hours
did he spend printing the invitation cards?
Ask comprehension questions like:
 Who celebrated his 9th birthday?
 Who did he invite to his birthday?
 Do you invite your friends to celebrate with you on your
birthdays? Why?
 Infuse the value of love for others.
Say: “Looking at the problem, what does it ask for? How will you
solve for the answer?”

2. Performing the Activities

To solve for the answer, divide: 144 ÷ 9
Step 1
 Divide the first partial dividend (14 tens) by the divisor.
14 ÷ 9 = 1
 Write the quotient 1 above the tens place.
 Multiply the quotient 1 by the divisor. 1 x 9 = 9
 Write the product 9 under the 14 tens.
 Subtract 9 from 14. 14 – 9 = 5
 Write 5 under the tens place.

Step 2
 Bring down the ones digit.
 Divide the new dividend by the divisor. 54 ÷ 9 = 6
 Write the quotient 6 above the ones place.
 Multiply the quotient by the divisor. 6 x 9 = 54
 Write the product 54 under the 54 tens.
 Subtract 54 from 54. 54 -54 =0

Step 3
 Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
 The product must be equal to the divided.

3. Processing the Activities

How did you find the activity?
How did you get the quotient of a 3-digit number divided by 1-digit
number?

4. Reinforcing the Concept and Skill

Discuss the presentation under Explore and Discover on top of
page 49, LM Math Grade 4.

Have the pupils study this problem:

Myra ordered 621 roses for her flower shop. Her helpers made
bouquets for every 8 roses. How many bouquets of roses were
made for sale?
Ask: How will you solve this problem?
Step 1:
 Divide the first partial dividend (62) by the divisor.
62 ÷ 8 = 7 r. 6
 Write 7 above the tens place. Multiply 7 by the divisor.
8 x 7 = 56
 Subtract 56 from 62. 62 – 56 = 6

Step 2:
 Bring down the ones digit.
 Divide 61 by the divisor. 61 ÷ 8 = 7 r. 5
 Multiply the quotient 7 by the divisor. 8 x 7 = 56
 Subtract 56 from 61. 61-56 = 5 (remainder)
 Write r. 5 in the quotient.

Give the following activities for more reinforcement.

A. Find the quotient of the following:

1. 9748 ÷ 4
2. 3618 ÷ 6
3. 834 ÷ 3

B. Let the pupils do the exercises under Get Moving on page 51 of

LM Math Grade 4.

5. Summarizing the Lesson

Lead the pupils to give the generalization by asking:
 How do you divide 3- to 4- digit numbers by 1-digit
numbers with or without remainder?

 To divide a 3-digit number by 1-digit number with or

without or remainder, the following are the steps:
1. Divide the first partial dividend by the divisor.
2. Write the quotient above the hundreds or tens place
3. Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
4. Write the product under the hundreds or tens place and
then subtract.
5. Bring down the next digit in the dividend.
6. Divide the next partial dividend by the divisor.
7. Write the product under the tens or ones place and then
subtract.
8. Continue the process until the last partial dividend
9. Write the remainder, if any, in the quotient.

 To divide a 4-digit number by 1-digit number without or with

remainder, the following are the steps:
1. Divide the first partial dividend by the divisor.
2. Write the quotient above the thousands or hundreds
place.
3. Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
4. Write the product under the thousands or hundreds
place, and then subtract.
5. Bring down the next digit in the dividend.
6. Divide the next partial dividend by the divisor.

7. Write the product under the hundreds or tens and then

subtract.
8. Continue the process until the last partial dividend.
9. Write the remainder, if any, in the quotient.

6. Applying to New and Other Situations

Ask the pupils to solve items 1 to 4 under Apply Your Skills on
page 52, LM Math Grade 4.

IV. Assessment
Find the quotient of the following:
1. 156 ÷ 5
2. 763 ÷ 7
3. 6426 ÷ 6
4. 819 ÷ 9
5. 3396 ÷ 3

V. Assignment
Give the quotient of the following:
1. 168 ÷ 8
2. 246 ÷ 6
3. 4328 ÷ 4
4. 729 ÷ 9
5. 8415 ÷ 5
