Swedtel Ascom - TEMS Automatic Trial Dammam

Huawei KSA

February 2015
Introduction

Swedtel is an International Telecom-and ICT management company, specializing in the

development and operations of Fixed, Mobile and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), as well as
specialized on ICT, Regulatory and Interconnect issues.

Originating from Telia in 1968, Scandinavia and Northern Europe’s leading telecom operator,
Swedtel has gained true operator experience in combination with international consulting
experience. Swedtel has been the operational arm of Telia in all of its offshore ventures.

Swedtel has successfully supported a number of operators/vendors facing competition and

deregulation and have continually sharpened its skills and methods for managing complex and
demanding business challenges.

Swedtel has strong presence in Saudi Arabia since 1974 and have active contracts with major
operators/government/vendors like STC, Mobily, CITC ,NSN and involved in Planning, Design,
Managed Services & other Telecom and consultancy services.

Swedtel’s proposal is based on its long-term experience in the telecom industry and other vertical
industries. Swedtel has completed over 500 projects in more than 100 countries and has evolved
over 45 productive years in the telecom business.
Background

The Managed services project in Saudi Arabia requires many drive testing teams capable of
handling different technologies.

For most of the managed services projects, separate teams are allocated for separate
technologies resulting in higher number of drive test teams consequently resulting in higher
recurring costs every month.

Based on the earlier presentation to Huawei about the concept, a trial was conducted in co-
ordination with Huawei in the eastern region. Also the trial was based on the requirements from
Huawei to cover 12 test scenarios with multi technology. The details of the test results are
detailed in the following slides.

Swedtel would like to present in the following slides the results of the recent trial conducted for
Huawei in the Eastern Region. It details the capabilities, benefits and configuration by using its
Multi Technology Automated Drive Test team enabling the vendors to benefit from a single team
capable of handling all major technologies like GSM, UMTS, LTE etc.

Apart from the cost benefit, there is an operational benefit when it comes to resolving inter-
technology problems as well as measurement reports which are similar in formats and processed
at the same time. Also since the data collection can take place at the same time for the various
technologies the samples and the conditions are suited for a true comparison.

Swedtel is already providing this service to major vendors in Saudi & internationally and has
trained engineers who are capable of testing multi technologies like GSM, UMTS, LTE etc.

Benefits of Automated Multi Technology teams

•  Multi technology teams will drastically reduce monthly costs.

Traditional Solution (Multiple Teams) Solution (Single Team)

•  Single Drive Tests covering multiple technologies reduces the time to deliver
results, and simplifies the post processing for all technologies (single Log files).

•  Less resource requirement as there is no need for a drive tester who is normally
the most expensive element in a DT team.

•  All DT log file data in one place for remote processing thereby saving time and
cost for post processing as well.

•  Well suited solution to benchmark multiple operators with multi technology at the
same time as RF conditions remain the same for true comparison of different
scenarios

TEMS Automatic Trial

This trial was conducted in co-ordination with Ascom as a Proof of Concept for the
Huawei, the top vendor in Saudi Arabia.

Ascom is the solution provider of the automated solution and Swedtel is the main partner
for this type of solution. Swedtel is already engaged in similar solution with Ascom on other
projects in Saudi and internationally.

SIM Cards of Mobily were used in this trial.

GSM, WCDMA & LTE testing were conducted with below multiple scenario.
3 RCUs were used for this trial for 12 test cases

Report is generated using Ascom Post-Processing tool TEMS Discovery Device. All
logistics in Dammam ( Eastern Province of KSA) were taken care of by Swedtel.
