CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY

Gender discrimination is really rampant problem that occur in our society especially in
school nowadays. Not just Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people are prone in
this kind of issued, even men and women are a victim of gender discrimination. Gender spectrum
stated in their article, once a sex is assigned, we presume the child’s gender. For many people,
this is a cause for a little, and any concern or further thought. LGBT people all over the world
continue to face challenges. Examples, include a lack of employment opportunities (Sears
&Mallory, 2011), and prejudice when accessing health care (Winter, 2012), housing (Grant,
Mottet & Tanis, 2011) and education (Burns, 2011). In other instances, homophobic rape are
committed against lesbians (Brown, 2012), while the killing of members of the LGBT
community continues in different countries despite increasing calls for equality and freedom
from all forms of discriminations and oppression.
According to Pokharel (2008), discrimination is an expressing lack of approval or support
treatment to anyone based on gender, sex, race and so on. It is considered as an obstacle for the
achievement of the objectives of equality, development and peace. Discrimination is perceived as
a type of disparity and issue for ladies around the globe. It influences the limit of ladies and
thusly brings mental destructive outcomes. Discrimination is something that is wild, or a plague
can prompt demolish notoriety and self-assurance of a person.ender identity is our internal
experience and naming our gender. The two most common gender identities are boy and girl and
often people think that these are the only two gender identities. This idea that there are only two
genders is called the "gender binary." But gender is not limited to just two possibilities. A child
may have a non-binary gender identity, which means they do not identify as a boy or a girl - they
could identify as both or neither, or as another gender identity. Agender people do not identify
with any gender. (Gender spectrum, n.d)For how many years have passed women and LGBT are
still discriminate due to their gender. People who are experiencing gender discrimination are
commonly women and LGBT and rarely for men. Even though there are implementation and
laws that protects the women and LGBT from gender discrimination, like Bill of the Anti-
Discrimination Act of 2017. Its an act prohibiting discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, sex,
gender, gender identity, and etc. People still able to discriminate and it is still inevitable. School
in the Philippines implement gendered uniform and hair-length requirement without exception
for students who do not identify as their sex assigned at birth. Since people, especially gays who
usually don't want a boy hair cut for they want a long hair in order for them to feel that they are
woman. Many students feel uncomfortable and unwelcome at school, be turned away by school
guards, or skip class or drop out. One way of operationalizing gender discrimination is to learn it
from school. For school is an institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning
environments for the teaching of students under the direction of students. It is a place where you
can learn to accept someone behavior, gender identity and learn to accept the society / your
environment. According to Marquez, B. (2015) School should be a safe place for everyone. But
in our country which is Philippines, students who are LGBT too often find that their experience
in school is marred by bullying, discrimination, lack access to LGBT-related information, and in
some cases, physical or sexual harassment.
From the forgoing, it is clear that the meaning of gender and discrimination are being
defined. It defines that gender is different from sex. It tells the prejudicial treatment of gender and
implies the ways to solve the issue. Also this paper is to address some of the instruction concerns
and issues that had been proposed. We are all beings that look for a better state, a state of being
greater and better than where we are a bunch that is in a state of an unsatisfied thirst for constant
improvement, for constant gender equality.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Gender discrimination segregation could be a unavoidable design of separation and bias

against transgendered individuals inside society. LGBT individuals confront colossal troubles
developing up in a society where heterosexuality is regularly displayed as the as it were
satisfactory introduction and homosexuality is respected as freak. They proceed to confront
separation and avoidance over the world in all circles of life. Homophobic viciousness and
mishandle focusing on LGBT individuals happen on a standard premise. This ponder points to
analyze the affect of sexual orientation separation within the society.
• Is being lesbian, gay, or bisexual a mental disorder?
• Does international human rights law apply to LGBT people?
• Have LGBT people always existed?

THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK
WALAY NAG SEND!
DILI NI FINAL-> According to Chaudhry & Rahman (2009) and Edgar T. (2017) there are
many objective proof that, increase in female education enhance human development conclusion
such as survival, health and schooling. Schools should be well places for everyone because these
fulmination can cause endless, lasting damage and abridge students right to education, secure
under Philippines and International law. In recent years, lawmaker and school supervisor in the
Philippines have name that bullying of LGBT tad is a serious problem and designed interpose to
address it. In 2012, the Department of Education (DepEd), which the administer primary and
secondary schools, constitute a Child Protection Policy plan to talk bullying and discrimination in
schools, including on the bottom of sexual exposure and gender sameness. The following year,
Congress passed the Anti-bullying Law of 2013, with apply rules and regulations that list sexual
orientation and gender sameness as prohibited grounds for bullying and bugging. The adoption of
these policies sends a strong signal that bullying and discrimination are wrong and should not be
allow in educational institutions.

CHAPTER 2
METHODOLOGY

This chapter deals with a discussion on research steps and methods utilized by the analysts
in this study. These incorporate the research design, investigate disobedient, information
gathering method and the measurable treatment of the data.

Research Design

This study uses a qualitative type of research wherein its method is a case study. According
to Flyvbjerg (2011) case studies were one of the primary types of research to be utilized within
the field of qualitative methodology. This article presents the case study as a type of qualitative
research. Its point is to allow a detailed description of a case study – its definition, a few
classifications, and a few preferences and drawbacks – in arrange to supply a higher
understanding of this broadly utilized type of qualitative approach. In comparison to other types
of qualitative approach, case studies have been little understood both from a methodological
point of view, where differences exist whether case studies ought to be considered a research
method or a research type, and from a content point of view, where there are ambiguities
regarding what ought to be considered a case or research subject. An awesome accentuation is
set on the disadvantages of case studies, where we attempt to negate a few of the reactions
concerning cases studies, especially in comparison to quantitative research approaches (Sturman,
1997).

Research Subjects

One interview is sometimes very adequate to set up that something that is possible
(Becker,2007). This study will be participated by a senior high school student of Daniel R.
Aguinaldo National High School. This study will be conducted during the end of the first
semester of school year 2018-2019.
This study uses a journal analysis survey wherein there is a grade 11 student who belongs to
the LGBT community. This student was the best participant for this study since he can really
answer those questions based on his experiences, for what he believes and perspective about
gender discrimination. A list of survey questions together with the consent was send to him
through message in his social media account. Later on, when he can able to reply his answers, all
the data will be gathered and reviewed for it can use to add support for this study.
