1 INTRODUTION
The world of business is changing very fast. So, the theoretical knowledge alone will not
fulfill the needs of business school students. As a management student it is very important to
know the activities of any business. In view of this fact, the scheme of our MBA course provides
an opportunity to expose the student to an organization study. An organization is a social unit of
people that is structured and managed to meet a need or to pursue collective goals.
Organizational functioning is an important factor for all the organization to achieve its desired
goals and objectives. This requires co-ordination at all levels for smooth functioning.

This report aims to understand about the organizational structure, processes and practices.
My study is conducted at Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited(HOCL).

Hindustan Organic Chemicals Limited (HOCL) was set up by the Government of India in
1960 with the objective of attaining self-reliance in basic organic chemical needs. In fact, this
was the first endeavor to indigenious manufacture of basic chemicals and to reduce country’s
dependence on import of vital organic chemicals. The company started as small chemical unit,
has today acquired the status of a multi unit company with two fast growing units and one
subsidiary unit.
It was expected that indigenous manufacture of these chemical intermediates will give
impetus to downstream industries resulting in setting up of chemical units and achieving self-
sufficiency for the country in this area. This objective of setting up company has been achieved
and at present more than 500 units based on company’s products have been set up all over the
country which have not only succeeded in meeting the goal of self-sufficiency but also entered
the international markets earning precious foreign exchange by exporting chemicals, dyes and
drugs.
