What
Definition:
is Smoking?
Smoking is the act of inhaling
smoke, produced by the combustion
of an element, through the mouth,
usually of tobacco in a cigarette,
cigar, or pipe.
CIGARETTES GIVE OFF TWO
MAIN ATMOSPHERE-
POLLUTING CHEMICALS,
CARBON DIOXIDE AND
AIR
Smoking worldwide releases

2.6 BILLION
KG
If you smoke one cigarette these
chemicals aren’t lethal, but when
everyone smokes, the culmination
takes its toll.
METHANE of carbon dioxide and
KG Cigarettes produce over
5.2 BILLION
of methane EVERY YEAR
7,000
chemicals when lit.
MANUFACTURING
PROCESS
Tobacco causes a lot of air pollution even before it gets into the customer’s lungs

Machines flatten land and prepare fields for

tobacco planting by spreading pesticides and
other chemicals onto the soil to promote
growth and crop loss.

Once the tobacco has

grown, machines then cut
the crops for curing

The curing process involves special

furnaces or wood burning fires to dry
out the tobacco, all causing harmful
chemicals to be released into the air
SMOKING BAN
Smoking bans (or smoke-free laws) are public policies,
including criminal laws and occupational safety and
health regulations, that prohibit people to smoke in any
workplaces or other public spaces.
The Smoking Ban in the Philippines is
under the provisions of 2 laws:
• The Clean Air Act of 1999
• The Tobacco Regulation of 2003
President Rodrigo Duterte issued the
Philippine Executive Order 26 that
invoked these 2 laws to impose a
nationwide ban on smoking in all public
places in our country.
This executive order forbids the use of
tobacco, including electric cigarettes, in
all public places. It also prohibits anyone
under 18 years old from buying or selling
these kind of cigarette products.
Why do you think these laws are
implemented?
Smoking bans were enacted in an
attempt to protect people from the
effects of smoking like heart
disease, lung cancer and other
illnesses
In addition, these laws may reduce health
care costs, improve work productivity and
many more. Smoking restrictions could
also reduce risk of fire in areas with
explosives hazards and this laws could
promote cleanliness in public places.
RESTRICTIONS UPON
SMOKING CAN IMPROVE THE
AIR QUALITY IN MANY
ESTABLISHMENTS
