Philippine Literature Syllabus

I. Course Name : PHILIPPINE LITERATURE

II. Course Code : Lit 1

III. Course Description : The content of this course stresses on the


historical transition of Philippine Literature through representative
compositions of different genres-short stories, poetry, plays and essays
for literary absorption both for appreciation and for interpretative
analysis to develop interest in the value of nationality in literature.
IV. Course Credit : 3 units lecture

V. Contact Hours/Semester : 54 lecture hours

VI. Placement : 2nd Year, 2nd Semester

VII. Course Objectives : At the end of this course, students shall

be able to:

1. Trace the historical transition of Philippine Literature from the Pre-


Spanish Period up to the present;
2. Explain the significant features of the various literary pieces from
different periods ;
3. Actively participate in all activities from group discussions to portrayal of
plays and drama;
4. Inculcate value, awareness of and appreciation for a Filipino literary
legacy ;
5. Write a wholesome critique paper in one of the selected readings;
6. Participate in a stage play to give life to certain literary genres.
