QUESTION GUIDE FOR THE INTERVIEW

1. For how long have you been a counselor? (from other institution and the school)
Licensed Since 2009 so, 10 years na, I work there as director ng guidance sa EAC
and psychology department head sa EAC so more than 10 years, 2years here in PCWHS.

2. Aside from the institution (school), do you have any experiences in other local
institution before being a school guidance counselor for SHS? If yes, please state the
cases that you were able to handle.
This is my first public service (karen: may pinag trabahuhan na po kayo before?) It's all
private like, Emilio Aguinaldo College, puro College siya

3. As a counselor, what do you think are your responsibilities to the school and the
students?
I have lots of cases, I have cases marital separation. Depende, if I'll be working in the
school, I have cases of the students, Tulad ng sa private school, yung mga students who commit
suicide, lalo na yung mga foreign students, and then outside school, I had my, yung mga marital
problem, kaya yung mga gustong mag file ng legal separation yung mga ganun. School dito sa
atin, syempre ang responsibilities ko from my students is to assists our students especially the
Senior High in their career development, you know the role of K-12 diba, the roles of k-12 are
what, is to help students to understand what career they will pursue when they go to college, so
that's one of my responsibilities, and of course the well being of the students, when you say well
being it include the mental health status of the students.

4. What kind of counselor are you? What are the things you avoid especially when
working?
Anong ibig sabihin ng "what kind of counselor I am"? (karen: depende po) masyadong broad yun
ah (karen: opo haha ano po what are the things you avoid especially when working or do you have
habits po or ibang ano other way...) Syempre as a licensed counselor "you stand by what you
thought, you stand by what the profession of your licensed needs diba, If you are counselor you
have to separate your personal things to your profesion sa life, dealing with clients, dealing with
students, for example you have to separate your emotional attraction or shall we say your
profesional attraction from your personal satisfaction.

5. As of the moment, what are the different problems that the school is concerned about?
How do you deal with these problems? Is there a unique approach or intervention that
you are using that you think helped you in achieving your vision and mission?
Sa atin dito? You really want to know? (karen: opo sir) sige.... So what is the attitude of
the students, kasi parang one attitude; nabigla sila ih, nasanay ang studyante sa junior high that
this is their attitude diba pag dating sa senior high nabigla ibig sabihin we have to help our
students to tame down diba so what are the problems that we encounter tiredness,
absenteeism diba ahh seriousness in the classroom, kasi iba yung junior high sa senior high you
know that diba, ibang iba talaga when you are inside the classroom na kasi you are preparing
yourself in college diba, so thats one, parang ang ano natin ang challenge for the guidance
counselor in public school, not only me it's to help the career development of the students, diba
yung career ano ba talaga ung gusto nilang kunin ENCAI is not enough dba kasi when the junior
take the ENCAI they'll just taking it wala Lang as a test pero in reality di nila alam na this are the
skills na ma- a-assess akong among bagay sakanila sa college so the role their of the guidance
counselor is to let the students understand the ENCAI results for them, when they go to senior
high they will be able to know that oh this track is Ito yung gusto kong kunin hindi yung kukuha
ka Lang halimbawa ng HumSS or anything else kasi Andun ung barkada mo or crush mo or any
reason, Hindi mo kinuha ung track mo because this is what i wanted to this is what I practice
diba yun.

How you deal, you deal with the students, you have to coordinate with the teachers to
the advisers because they are the one naman na talagang nakikita na studyante o sila ang
nakakapag monitor ng students, counselors are not a disciplinary, hindi disciplinarian ang
guidance counselors ah but the counselor just give counseling to the students for consultation
they will not give what, Hindi ang counselor ang Nagbibigay ng Parusa, suspension or any
disciplinary action, ginagawa yan ng adviser, so the adviser how I dealt with it, the adviser will
give an appointment to me or referral to me for the students to have a counseling kaya lang
minsan Hindi nangyayari kasi Dinadala na dito mga teacher para disciplinary which is wrong.

Of course I have as an counselor you have to follow your counseling philosophy or your,
ano ba tawag namin dito, yung practice na treatment mo, Me I follow my SSTP or my solution
focus therapy which is actually what, gives my reaction how to help the students.

6. Do you face struggles or difficulties in performing your duties or whenever you’re at

work? If yes, please state those.
Yun nga, kasi sa private school alam na agad ung responsibilities ng guidance counselor sa public
hindi, for example in public school ilang student meron tayo 4000, ilang guidance counselor? Isa
lang. Sabagay dito sa West dalawa kami haha yun nga sabi ko saan ba nag s-struggle, ano ba talaga
role ng guidance? Is it disciplinary officer? Or guidance counselor? So doon palang nag kakaroon na

7. Are there any programs in your hand that you are implementing or planning to
implement that you think will help the concurrent problems of the school? What are
those?
Ayun program na inaano natin for the past three years ung career guidance program natin so
ayun talaga ung inaano ng depEd lalo na sa senior high school, I focused sa senior high a kesa sa
junior, so ayun career guidance program sa senior high then the child protection policy that includes
ung maminimized ung mga bullying cases, and what else, Ito ngayon ung mental awareness program
ng School.

8. What are the victories and achieved goals of the institution so far that you think was a
great fulfillment for you?
Achievements, ung Career guidance program siguro, oo naman at least na re realize ng student
sa ngayon, lalo na sa senior high, like when they take up HumSS they will know what profession they
will be able to go and this will also help to guide the students also through yung CGP program niyo
diba, I don't know Kung ine- implement pa ba.

9. Being a professional counselor, what skills do you think you have that is in need for
improvement? Do you have a solution in mind that you think will help you?
In need, improvement siguro as of now yung mga test, kasi wala rating test materials unlike in
private school when we partake in psychological test andyan agad, tayo wala aaprobahan pa yan ng
gobyerno hahaha aaprobahan pa ni DepEd yan haha so yun parang Hindi masyado na papractice
yung testing skills psycological halimbawa, you have your student who is depress tas ganyan ganito
who has personality problem why test will you give, wala counseling lang diba unlike in private
school maraming assessment na pwede mong ibigay, dito assessment Lang yung National
Achievement test natin,y ung exam natin, yun lang, so tama ung tanong mo ano ba dapat e-improve
sa ngayon, testing diba para mas malaman natin ung preparedness ng mga students, ano yung
personality development na pwede mating ituro sa students, proper assessment yun lang.
