NARRATIVE REPORT ON BRIGADA ESKWELA S.

Y 2019-2020

May 20-26,2019

The school is an institution which is responsible for molding the learners into a responsible

individual in our society. As they say, it is the students’ second home. This is where they are being

molded and prepared to become a better person, who will emblem of the kind of school he was raised.

Educators believed that environment plays a big part in students’ learning. Conducive classroom

environment is one of the most important factors affecting student learning. Simply put, students learn

better when they view the learning environment as positive and supportive (Dorman, Aldridge, &

Fraser, 2006). A positive environment is one in which students feel a sense of belonging, trust others,

and feel encouraged to tackle challenges, take risks, and ask questions (Bucholz & Sheffler, 2009). Such

an environment provides relevant content, clear learning goals and feedback, opportunities to build

social skills, and strategies to help students succeed (Weimer, 2009). The Department of Education

conducted the Annual National Schools Maintenance Week with the theme “Matatag na Bayan para sa

Maunlad na Paaralan” dubbed as Brigada Eskwela on May 20-26, 2019 where stakeholders, in the

community, educators and public individuals contributed their time, energy and resources in ensuring

that the school will be ready for the School Opening on June 3,2019. The School head and the Brigada

Coordinator and concerned staff recruited volunteers for the said Brigada. Parents, students, alumni

and other individuals were encouraged to join and help in preparing the school. Private Companies,

and individuals were tapped to solicit donations to cover the expenses needed in repairs and school

maintenance. First week of May when Mrs. Emily Pigao performed a school ocular to identify the

school facilities that needs repair.

Early moring of May 20, the teachers of Vigan National High School, interested parents and students

held a parade that signalled the start of Brigada Eskwela. After the parade we had a little Completion

Program for the students who attended the Summer Reading Camp that was held on May 6-18, 2019

at VNHSW. Finally the opening of Brigada Eskwela was announced. The willing, ready and eager

teachers, parents, excited students and other concern individuals in the community, and supportive

parents who bought with them cleaning materials gather at the school grounds for the official start of

the Brigada.
On the First day of Brigada Eskwela, the BJMP Officers were assigned to trim the trees at the back of

the Bagong Lipunan and Philippine Zooo Building. The ICT Staff of Lyceum de Yloco were also present

to show their interest to the school by cleaning the computers at the Computer Laboratory.

On the second day the Family Choir from St. Agustin Parish donated paints which they used in painting

some of the classrooms. PNP Vigan also helped in painting the façade of the school.

On the 3rd day teachers and students focused on cleaning their respective classrooms to make the

room vibrant. Students applied floor wax, hanged the curtains they also fixed the broken tables and

chairs.

Every day the supportive parents come to school to help teaching force in making sure that the school

is ready for the opening of classes. Through the overwhelming support of the volunteers, the

classrooms were set and spruced up. Parents also assisted in placing a divider on Principal’s Office and

Guidance Office. The school facilities are now in good condition. Generally, the school is now ready for

the school opening on June 3,2019. Evidences for the week long activity is attached herewith.
