Overview

• The I-Site 8810 instrument combines advanced multi-sensor survey

technology with an easy to use field-ready instrument. Provides laser
scanning and digital photogrammetry in one integrated instrument.

• Designed and manufactured to stringent standards, developed with the

mining industry in mind.

• First laser scanner to incorporate panoramic digital colour imaging at a

super high resolution of 70 mega pixels.

Mining Applications

• Suited to a wide range of mining applications including:

– Volumetric measurements

– Pit surveys (end of month surveys)

– Stockpile surveys

– Haul road analysis

– Underground development and void survey

– Geological mapping

– Contract volume measurement

– Truck/shovel load measurement and analysis

I-Site Studio™

• Designed to process large data sets downloaded from laser scanning machines. I-
Site Studio™ is compatible with all laser scan data formats.

• Resultant models can be exported as DXF or as “ireg” file directly into Vulcan,
creating seamless integration between Maptek products.

Applications:
• Accurate asset management
• Pre/Post blast analysis
• Geological and geotechnical analysis
• Month-end surveying
• Open pit tools
• Automatic photo registration
– no reflectors needed.
End of Month Pit Surveys

• 1km x 900m open pit

scanned in 3 hours.

• Registered, filtered &

modelled for volumes in 20
minutes

Model for volume

Volumes
Contours

• Quickly and easily

generate contours
Sections

• Quickly and easily

generate sections.
Toes & Crests

• Automatically create
toes & crest strings on
open pit models.
Digital Panoramic Camera

• Taken at the same time as

scanning. Internal camera
that acquires up to 70 mega
pixels of panoramic imaging.

• Instant 3D geological
mapping

• Accurate structural &

lithological feature extraction

• Digitize geological features

and export as cad files into
Vulcan for further modelling.
Geotechnical Tools

• Able to gain Dip + Strike information directly from scans and

triangulations.
Geotechnical Tools

• Quickly generate Stereonets and Rose Diagrams from scans and

triangulations.

Rose Diagram of Strike Direction Stereonet of Dip Direction

Geotechnical Tools

• Analyse areas of instability in rock walls by comparing

surfaces over time.
Geotechnical Tools

• Identify unstable areas and fractures where slope failure

is occurring.
Geotechnical Tools

• Compare surfaces before and after failure to show where

volumes have changed and by how much:
Geotechnical Tools

• Scan rock failures to pull off information and measurements from

hazardous areas that you are unable to reach manually.
Underground Surveying
Underground Surveying

Easily calculate grades of drives

& create models for volumes or
stope differential volume
calculations.
Comparing Plan and As-Built

• Comparing the Plan (blue) and As-Built

(yellow) models.
• The difference highlights a possible
narrowing at one end of the asbuilt

• Before moving any equipment down, this

study will allow us to:

1. Measure the width of the asbuilt

2. Create an intersection line between plan and
asbuilt where the narrowing occurs
3. Export this line as X,Y,Z points to upload to a totalstation.
4. Calculate the volume to remove to widen the asbuilt to the plan.
Isolate Potential Areas of Concern

• ‘Fragmenting’ the two solids, highlights where the two overlap.

• The area in purple (right hand picture) is the potential narrow point.
Take Measurements

• Easily take and compare accurate measurements.

• First pass check on narrow points
• If it is narrow, Studio can be used to rectify situation by:

1. Identify location of intersection

between asbuilt and plan

2. Calculate volume to extract

Identify Intersections

• A line between these ‘fragments’ can be created

• This line is a standard CAD line.
• Can be exported as DXF or as an ASCII file of points
• These points could be loaded into a total-station which is then
taken underground to identify this area accurately.
Volume Calculations

• If the asbuilt has to be widened then

Studio can determine the volume of
the area to widen
– The difference between the asbuilt and the
plan
• A solid is created and a volume can be
calculated
• This can be used to determine a blast
pattern or other method to widen the
drive.
