Dear, whom it may concern

The circumstances that affected your academic performance during your most recent
OSAP-funded study period.

My lack of poor academic performances during the last years has affected my studies due to,
two reasons. First, when I was going to my second year of university during the ending of my fall
semester and my entire winter semester I was unable to attend school due to the strike. The strike
affected me a lot because all of my courses that I was enrolled in required a TA, being out of school for
almost 7-8 months affected my lack of motivation for school. In the end, I was put on academic
probation which I entered my 3rd year of university. Entering my third year, I was very excited to go back
to school reason being, the strike affected me to attend my classes. Then beginning in my third year was
going really great however, it felled apart when I lost a loved one, who was very close to me, had passed
away due to cancer. She was in the hospital for 11 months because she had a tumour growing in her
throat; she did the surgery which went fantastic. Although, two weeks after she felt a lot of pain and
wasn’t dong so good both internally and externally, later after she felled into a coma and was not able
to wake up after. This was my first time losing someone close to me, as I was dealing with a lot of mixed
emotions and feelings that I did not know to cope with. Due to this situation, I took some time off of
from work and lack motivation for school.

What steps you will take to improve your academic progress:

A few steps that I will be taking initiative towards myself to improve my academic progress was
I took a course called Fundamentals of Learning, which allowed me to gain different types of skills and
knowledge that I can use in my everyday lifestyles. For example; we learned how to improve our people,
communication, reading/ writing, and presentation skills. These were a few from other skills that we
focused on throughout the courses because throughout our university studies these are very important
skills to have because you encounter them every day. This course also allowed me to feel open and
comfortable to the campus so that I can get a better understanding of the university and not to ever be
afraid to ask questions because that’s the only way you will learn in life. Another step that I will be
taking to improve my academic progress is paying more attention to class and sitting within 5 rows in
front of the professor as well as adapting to a positive environment so that it will help me feel more
comfortable when it comes to asking questions and making study buddies in class, which can be very
helpful to have another friend in the same class because you can help each other out. Lastly, time
management is always something that I seem to struggle with however, the course Fundamental of
Learning has taught me how to prioritize my time and focus on the difference between what’s more
important and be aware of due dates so on my calendar I will scheduling enough time for what needs to
be done first and what I can do last.

Description of your academic goals:

My number one academic goal is to succeed in my program with a 4.0 GPA and above so that I
can graduate with my BA in Business and Society and take all the skills and knowledge that I learned to
the economy and take every day step by step. Another academic goal that I have for myself is learning
how to manage school and my personal life and still be able to so continue to grow on my academic
studies. The reason why I said this was because in the beginning of my university studies I was not able
to do both at the same time because I was not focusing on what’s more important and what needs to be
done which was also one of the reason which lead me being on academic probation. In conclusion, , I
have learned a lot about myself from these events that have occurred in my life and now starting my
next semester I can learn from my mistakes, and use all the knowledge and skills that I learned each and
every day.
