English as a second language should be thought and learned by every Filipino to be

globally competitive. For us, to be competitive globally, we should not only listen to
teachers or speakers but also read and write, then put it into action through proper way
of speaking. In engaging to speaking, starts from simple one in expressing one’s idea. As
a student, listening, reading and speech are very important factors. Listening and reading
are like twins, where you could not give the concrete picture of the words, so you have to
read. Then, you could not say that you have already know the words and can make simple
English sentence if you will not apply the process of speaking or communication.
So the task of our Department of Education is to give you quality education for us to
become globally competitive and ready for any challenges. By simply embracing the
reality today, after graduation, you want to land a job. Being applicant you undergo series
of interviews. If you are equip with knowledge and confidence then you have no reason
to step backward but instead, move on and stand with pride.
Competitions in speech, reading and writing will help students overcome difficulties when
it comes to speaking and writing. Most students are afraid to speak because they lack
confidence or they think their grammar is wrong. They resort to using mother-tongue
because it’s much easier for them to express their thoughts. As educators, we must
inculcate in their minds the benefit of learning English especially when looking for jobs.
These kind of competition will encourage them to go out of the box and express
themselves using the medium. They will find learning English as fun rather than a burden.
It will also shell out their creativity and they will be able to unleash their imagination
