Assignment: List down 10 Filipino cultures and values shown in the video and explain how it was
used and practiced by the characters.

1. HOSPITALITY – Lolo Nester (Eddie Garcia) made a warm welcome to his grandson and his
players. Upon his grandson’s arrival, he [Lolo Nestor] welcomed the group with freewill and
even treated the players as his grandsons as well.
2. RESPECT – In the team’s stay in the hands of Lolo Nestor, the old man pointed out the
importance of having respect, especially to those who are older. The football players
consistently used “po” and “opo” when they were talking to Lolo Nestor and Michael.
3. STRONG FAMILY TIES – Shown in the video was the positive treatment that Lolo Nestor gave
to Michael when they decided to stay in the old man’s place. It only showed that there’s no
awkward atmosphere within Lolo Nestor and Michael even if they have not seen each other
for a long time. They may be far in distance but never at heart.
4. PERSISTENCE, PERSEVERANCE, HARDWORK – As seen in the video, Lolo Nestor stated that
Michael was a former champion in the field of archery. The old man stated that persistence,
perseverance, and hardwork paved the way for Michael’s success in life. And being a coach
to a team of football players, Michael wanted to produce the next generation of PH Azkals.
5. OLD SCHOOL COURTSHIPS – Lolo Nestor stated in the video that the last thing you need to
do is love. In the video, Michael found the old love letters that Lolo Nestor sent to his wife.
The old man said to his grandson that a man can truly express his real feelings for a woman
through writing a letter.
6. ABILITY TO KEEP UP WITH MODERN TRENDS – When Michael and the team of football
players were about to leave Lolo Nestor’s place, the old man was nowhere to be found and
they had to look for him everywhere until they saw Lolo Nestor, sitting before a laptop and
using social media. This only signifies that Filipinos can keep up with whatever’s trending
around the world or simply, kayang makisabay sa kung ano ang uso.
7. PRESERVATION OF MEMORABILIA – Filipinos do keep and take real care of several things
with such sentimental values for them. In the video, Lolo Nestor kept several historical
objects such as the camera, the typewriter, his love letters, and the toy car made out of cans
which Michael brought home.
8. COORDINATION (Pakikisama) – Lolo Nestor and the team of football players, including
Michael, bonded for almost a week even if they had known each other for a short period of
time. Aside from being hospitable, Filipinos are friendly, too, and they respect one another.
9. DISCIPLINE and OBEDIENCE – Aside from being friendly, respectful, and hospitable, Filipinos
are also known for their discipline and obedience. Lolo Nestor also imposed discipline and
obedience within the players of Michael. As the team arrived in the old man’s place, gadgets
were immediately confiscated, showing the players what life really is without the presence
of technology for a week.
10. LIVING A SIMPLE LIFE – As shown in the video, Lolo Nestor took out the kids to teach them
how to fish for food then made a bonfire came the night. Simply, Michael, the football
players, and Lolo Nestor lived a simple life for a week and disconnected from the modern
world. As a result, the players, Michael, and Lolo Nestor have made good memories.
