B. Contextualization
1.Human Experience (Marzano’s Strategy: Non-linguistic presentation)
a. A short video clip entitled “the Unsung Hero” will be presented to
the students.
b. In this video clip the students will recognize several gestures
expressed towards all the living things; plants, animals, elderly,
helpless and unfortunate ones. It stresses the value of being
service-oriented through simple acts of initiative, generosity and
empathy.
c. The teacher will focus on the capacity of the person to give life in
order to emphasize the importance of the fifth commandment.
2.Processing (Cues and Questions Advance Organizer)
a. In the video presented which scene remained and attracted you?
Why?
b. Enumerate four gestures and actions the “unsung hero” did in the
video clip.
c. If you are to follow the example of the “unsung hero”, how are you
going to carry them out in your house, school and community?
3.Linkage
a. As we are able to recognize several elements of promoting life, we
can gaze upon our topic on the fifth commandment. In our daily
life, we are bound to take care of ourselves as well as the life of
other people. However, there are instances that our simple remarks
and actions can hurt or damage other people’s life. The story of
Cain and Abel will assist us in understanding “Who is a brother’s
keeper?”

C. Exposition of the Christian Message

a. Dramatic Reading: The story of Cain and Abel is read in the class.
b. Exegesis (Marzano’s Strategy: Identifying Similarities &
Differences)
c. After reading the story, the students will compare and contrast the
personality of the two brothers.

3. Life of a Saint
a. The life of St. Mary Frances is a witness of love and virtue in
terms of dealing with the pain and suffering from home. She grew
up enduring severe temper of her father. Bringing terrible
experiences with her, she had the capacity to be selfless. She took
care of people through spiritual direction and accompanying those
who are in distressful condition of life.
b. Let us reflect upon our homes. How do we take care of our parents?
c. In our community, how do we take care of neighbour?
d. In the school, how do we take care of our classmates, teachers and
other school staffs?

3. Activity:
a. The students will be asked to group themselves into three. In a
short time, they will help each other to come up with three
resolutions they can concretely live out in their respective homes.
b. The resolutions will be presented by themselves in the class.
c. The resolutions formulated by the students will be used as a
material for the final prayer before the end of the class. It will be
done in the chapel as it becomes the final prayer for the class.
E. Summarization
1. The teacher will ask the students what they’ve learned from the lesson
of today.
2. We will look back to the story of Cain and Abel and reiterate the value
of being a “brother’s keeper”
3. The fifth commandment is not only a law to be observed but a principle
to be reflected. In order to avoid hurting other people, a person is
encouraged to cultivate an attitude that preserves and promotes life in
simple ways. To be brother’s keeper or a sister’s keeper is very
important in our home, school and community. The church inculcates
the preciousness of life and how it should be valued as God values it.

V. Assignment
A. Write a prayer for a neighbour such as your friend, your classmates, your teachers
or your parents.
B. After writing this prayer, read it for whom you intended it.
