EC 21-624 after Software Upgrade or Software Reload

IMPORTANT: When doing the procedures in this document, you must use safe work
practices and wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment (for example, Safety
Eyewear) according to your Company's Standard Operating Procedures.

Problem:

After performing a software upgrade (V2.7.b1) or software reload (reimage), the

5800/5850/TX50 printer may fail to calibrate small-size films e.g. 25 x 30 cm (10 x 12
in.) and 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10 in.) film sizes, and declares the error code EC 21-624.
However, the printer is able to successfully calibrate the 35x43 cm (14 x 17 in.) size.

This is often seen if a backup cannot be created or restored.

NOTE: The application log shows all calibration steps values to be read as 0 (zero):

Root cause:

The calibration pattern on 25 x 30 cm (10 x 12 in.) and 20 x 25 cm (8 x 10 in.) films is

shifted by around 2 cm so the densitometer cannot read the 21 calibration steps; i.e. the
calibration step wedges do not fall under the densitometer reading zone.
This happens because the 58x0 ghost image has a bad default for the Optics Parameters and
the FE did not restore the backup configuration so the original Optics Parameters are lost.

Solution:

For a DV5800 the Start Index Delay of 900 is good for 5800 as starting point (but it is no
good for 5850).

For DV5850 adjust the Start Index Delay for 10 in. film trays from 900 (wrong value) to
around 1400.

This is a temporary adjustment that will allow the printer to calibrate the small film sizes.

Important!
The FE should now perform the optics offset and delay adjustments as written and
described in the Service Manual Adjustments Section to set the values “correctly”.
