Universal Design for Learning (UDL

This activity is great for the UDL. It will keep students engaged the whole time and it is an easy way to be able
to express themselves. It challenges them to use different technology to do so. If working in groups, students
will each be able to shine in different ways. It allows students to create something of their own to showcase
what they have learned. When creating our own in class, I was engaged and excited the entire time. So I know
students will be too.

Lesson idea implementation: The students will watch the teacher created video of Martin Luther King Jr. a
very influential American during the 1950’s to 1975. The students will discuss important events from his life
and how he influenced America. The teacher will then break the students into groups of 2 to 4 and assign
each group one of the following influential American xxxxxxxxxxx.
The students will research important events and gather images, and appropriate music to create a movie
depicting the life of their assigned person. They will use iPads to create their projects in the iMovie app. They
will save their movies to the iPads. The teacher can then save the movies onto a class Dropbox account.
Importance of technology:
Yes, the project could be done another way. Maybe as a poster or as a paper. If done that way, the students
would not be as excited or engaged with what they are creating. Allowing students to create a movie about
what they have learned will do both of those things. It would also lose LoTi levels of allowing students to
create on their own.

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (Whether in part
or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

I would allow students to use ipad’s to create their projects. I would post their projects to a class website so
parents and administraors can see what they use the technology for. I would of course review with the class

what is acceptable/unacceptable for internet use and safety. I would also maybe narrow down what sites
they can use to obtain their information from, such as discovery education or brainpop.

Reflective Practice:
This greatly impacts student learning. It allows students to go up the LoTi levels of learning. They are creating
something on their own. It is also would make grading easier because each video would be so different and
interesting to watch. Not only would students have fun making their projects, but they would be so proud of
it and eager to show it off. That is a rewarding feeling as a teacher.
