4. Rationale for inclusion of the module in the program:

This module is designed to mission is to impart undergraduate education and to


synthesize theory and practice that will equip students with mastery the
following skills:

• Critical thinking and self-reflection skills supported by qualitative and


quantitative analysis

essential to professional effectiveness in one’s discipline

• Team building, and leadership, and professional communication skills

i. Quizzes : The will be 14 quizzes and each quiz will be 30 minutes (14 x 0.5 h) =
7 hours

ii. Assignment : The will be 1 assignments and estimate the students will

allocate 1 hour for 4 week ( 1 h x 4 weeks) =

iii. Revision: Estimate the students will allocate 3 hours per week for subject

revision (14 weeks x 3 hours) =

9. Objective / Aims :

This course aims to provide the students with:

a) Identify management information system application opportunities in


business and industry.

b) Explain the issues involved in the development and deployment of
management information systems.

c) Investigate the opportunities and problems associated with computer-


based management information system that will provide the
background for determining the usefulness of computers to assist
management in the planning and control of business operations.

d) Acquire an ability to participate in IT-enabled organizational systems,


evaluate them, and contribute to system development efforts.

10. Learning outcome :

At the end of this module students will be able to:

The student will have knowledge of information management and


computing techniques including the use of spreadsheet and database
software to:

a) Understand how organizations use information systems.

b) Be familiar with the basic theories, concepts, methods, and


terminology used in information systems.

c) Be acquainted with the kinds of information systems used in


organizations.

d) Distinguish between different types of information systems.

e) Describe how information systems are used strategically and tactically


in business.

f) Describe the typical hardware, software, data, and telecommunications


used in information systems.

g) Comprehend and construct entity-relationship diagrams and data flow


diagrams.

h) Conduct an ethical analysis of an information systems issue and take


responsible action.

i) Know how to use Microsoft® Excel and Access to solve business


problems.

11. Transferable Skills :

This business information system knowledge will be useful for the students in
sense to relate between I.T and Business, and they can understand how the E-
Commerce really work.

12. Teaching & Learning and assessment strategy :

The use of IT is an integral part of the practical side of the course. It is


encouraged through applications requiring word processing, spreadsheet and
database. These involve website searches, use of library resources, and the
presentation of word processed documents including graphics displays. Oral
presentations are required at several points in the program; for example in
discussing and presenting the results of projects. Students work as part of team
on a semester-long project. Good time management is essential to organizing a
timetable to complete the project work.

Assessment of transferable skills is incorporated at several points during the


semester through exams and the course project.

13. Synopsis :

Introduces the business applications of information technology. Evaluates the


operating characteristics and organizational implications of business
information systems from the viewpoint of management. Discusses strategic
information planning, organizational change, systems-based decision
making, and preliminary methodologies for systems analysis. Examines
recent developments in information systems.

14. Mode of delivery :

Lectures topics, question and answered based on topics, discussion, practical,


exercises and quizzes. Beside quizzes students are required to do some
assignments.

15. Assessment methods and types:

Formative:

Class exercises based on the respective topic taught. Students will be given few
questions which they need to complete during the practical hours and will be
guided by the lecturer if they faced problems in completion.

Quizzes 20%

Every meeting (begin from the second meeting), the will be given a quiz which
the questions will be based on the previous meeting’s topic. The marks will be
accumulate and convert to 20% at end of the semester. The purpose of these
quizzes is to force the students to do some revision on the topic lectured every
week.

Assignment 20%

This assignment based on the business information system concepts which will
request the students to find themselves with refer to any of the tools (books,
journals or internet) and will do presentation on the final meeting before the
examination. The purpose of this assignment is to make the students
independently use tools to find some information related to accounting.

Summative:

Final Examination 60%

This examination based on the whole lesson which lectured in the semester. The
purpose of this examination is to give assessment to the students based on his
or her understanding in answering basic operating system questions.
