Love for a Child

Background :

Humans are social beings that need each other to continue living. In continuing life, humans must
breed to continue their lineage. But to achieve that, there is a system / tradition that must be passed first,
which is to marry and after that a bond is formed called the family.
The beginning of the formation of a family is based on the basic needs of each individual. (Rogers
Calvin and Gardner, 1993) say every human being has a basic need for warmth, appreciation, acceptance,
admiration, and love from others. This need is called the need for positive regard, which is further divided
into 2 namely the conditional positive regard and unconditional positive regard.
Family is the smallest unit in which consists of father, mother and child. Generally children in the
family are raised in conditions that are intact, harmonious and happy in their lives. If a child is raised in a
condition that is intact, harmonious and happy, the child will grow into a healthy and comfortable person
in his life. Besides that, there are also children who are raised in families that are not harmonious or
commonly called brokenhome. Brokenhome is caused by disharmony in family relations between father
and mother caused by and or causes of disputes, the commotion that causes fights, and the worst is divorce.
Divorce is indeed a difficult thing for a married couple who goes through it. However, it will be more
difficult for the children in their marriage. Husbands and wives (mothers) who experience divorce tend to
be easier to reorganize and forget the sadness of their divorce. However, not for their children. Divorce can
cause deep wounds, namely the emptiness of the role of one of their parents. The parent figures is not fully
present in their lives, and it can affect the psychological side of the child.
The psychological impact that is generally experienced by a borken child home is excessive fear,
difficulty in interacting with others, closure, sensitivity, high temperament, even the worst is the emergence
of thinking to end life. However, the psychological impact that is felt varies depending on the pattern of
development and the environment of the child. A child can develop well if his psychological needs are also
good.
